I experienced some trauma that fortunately allowed me to keep half of my left foot, but it was shattered darned near everywhere, and my achilles tendon was ripped loose from my heel.  took about three years before I could walk.  Doctors said I'd never run, never be able to waterski, and probably be limited in my ability to walk distances... but they were wrong.  That was just shy of 40 years ago... fortunately, i was young.

Adaptation is easier when you're young.

The worst pain issues come not from the trauma, but from having severed nerves- your neural system doesn't know how to interpret the signals coming down that cut 'wiring', so you'll feel all sorts of difficult stuff... electric shock, itching, tickling sensations... barometric pressure and temperature... all those things that Grandpaw's knee used to tell you...

it's amazing how quick things happen, but that half-second of my life occurred in what seems like forever.  Fortunately, the fact that your body is damaged, does NOT mean that your spirit and soul have been injured.

Chin up, eyes forward, and best wishes for recovery.

When people note that you're missing half a finger... correct them:

No, I got to keep that half, and the other four!!!  Wink
Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest.
