I'll ask this again in case everyone is tired of the planter post...
Does anyone happen to know the chain size that fits the ground drive sprocket on the G tractors ?
I'm gonna try to rig up a side dresser, amoung everything thing else I'm trying to make for my G. Potato digger, weed wiper, side dresser, new planter mounts, on and on...

Thanks Dusty. Is that number of links how many links is needed for a particular piece of equipment ? I just need to find the size of the links so I can get some. No telling how many I'll need since I'm trying to make this from scratch.

I think it is a #35 chain. I have some and can look for a # on it on Friday when I go to the farm. Bob

Thanks, Dusty. I have a book with the first picture but not the other two.
Thanks Bob, #35 is a place to start ! I'll swing by TSC and get a few sections to try. Then I'll see if this old 3 point planter has sprockets that use the same size so hopefully I won't have to buy a new sprocket. I'm sure mounting bearings to the tractor frame will be fun, too...

Warren, take your sprocket to your nearest bearing supply house and they can tell you exactly what chain you need, good luck !!!

If I get off work in time today, I'll run out to Cross and sons farm equipment here in Jackson, they'll have it. The sprocket is on the tractor, kind of a nuisance to take it off but I have another, bigger sprocket that has the same distance between the teeth that should do for sizing. Be lucky if the bearings get here before the middle of next week anyhow.
Of course, Cross and Sons had it. It's #32, got a 10 foot roll for a bit over $40. I'll never wear it out !
Dang Chinese chain ! You can practically tie a knot in it while it's laying flat !!! Brand new wore out ! Edited by Warren(Oh) - 04 Jun 2012 at 6:39pm |

I got my 'side dresser' finished last Saturday. Looks like it should work, won't know till it's in the field.
Question : How much fertilizer should be put in the row, say, for sweetcorn ? What number (12-12-12) should I look for ? Nitrogen being higher for corn/cane.
What number for potatoes ? Taters don't need so much nitrogen, they need the other stuff. Growing up Dad only bought 12-12-12 but I see a lot of different numbers at Walmart of all places but it's for lawn care, has weed killer in it.

Well, I don't have any plans drawn up, everything is in my head and has gone through a couple rethinks since I started it. I do have most everything built and awaiting final assembly. The digger head needs some whittling on the sides so the front wheels can be turned, someone made it to long toward the front...
I'll see if I can throw together a rough drawing and post it here.
I'm still waiting on a price for a left hand manual lift plow and lift assembly, Herb....

OK, I can't draw everything I've done so I'll post a couple actual pictures of what I have so far. Here's a rough drawing, though.

If you had hydraulic lift it would not be too hard to convert it to a split lift, for both right and left. Dusty

I actually know where there is both, one with manual, one with hydraulic and last I heard from him, they were for sale as a pair. I only need/want the left hand plow and manual lift assembly to go with one of the right hand ones I have, to be used, too. No more shows for me, local anyway. Maybe someday. |
