I've got a bundle topper I need to install on my 60A. Great-granddad used to use it some, so the holes are already drilled in the header sides to mount it there. My question is how do you attach it to the combine's sickle bar? I'm guessing you use small bolts through two sickle sections, after punching out the old rivets, but I just thought I'd see if anyone here has any experience with that.
Thanks!

It’s a bundle topper. It basically turns the combine into a stationary threshing machine. After using your grain binder, you take the bundles to the combine, and holding them horizontally, pass them down over the bundle topper sickle bar. Then the heads go up into the combine to get threshed, and you don’t have to run all the stalks through. |

OK. Now a stupid question from me. Why wouldn't you just use the combine in the field as it was designed?

That part I don't really know. Great-grandpa used it on kaffir, which was pretty tall back then, before shorter "combine" varieties were bred. I'm thinking since the header wouldn't raise up near high enough (without the high lift attachment) to take just the heads, they bound it and used the bundle topper. Maybe this was their solution to keep from threshing the whole tall plant?
I'm just doing it to try out the bundle topper, and have some fun using it.

yes, for such things as kaffir, or higeri(sp), red top cane, and others that got really tall
these were prolly bundled when the stalks were still really green, but seed had matured, the 'butts' were ground in the hammer mill, or fed whole to the cattle.. a really dangerous attachment,,, as you can prolly tell by looking.. I can remember this being used by my grandparents....

By using the topper they could use the straw. No big V rake and bailer to follow the combine. MACK

Thanks. That’s interesting, I’m missing part 15 and 16, that spring. I guess I better look at my book and see what that’s for
