Whoops! How bout a glass shop? Let them make a window for it. It would be easy then to keep track of the oil level... LOL!

I used polycarb on a Briggs once...looked GREAT until I started it, then you couldn't see the action til the oil setttled when shut off. Never leaked in 3+ years !

hmm..,could screw on some polycarb, didn't think about duct tape ed,that might work! its well ventilated got a bit smaller hole on the other side. It was a cheap motor(free),so I can splash out on some duct tape.

Yes aus d19,came out of n6, the guy who owns the n6 took it out and put a 8.3 cummins in instead. He had only just rebuilt this one so the liners and pistons should be still good (bar the one the rod hit,) turbo is near new as well. Jeff

Well if you manage to save that block make sure you take alot of photos we will all want to see how you repair it. You will be the master of motor repairs when you are done. I think it might be time to head to the scrap yard and see if they have nicer donner motor. Oh wait that is what the first owner already did.... wow that looks expensive for a rebuilt motor would be interesting to know what went wrong so we don't make that mistake.

Just drill holes along all the edges where it split and "stitch" it back together with zip ties; just make sure they are the heavy duty ones. Cover with duct tape to seal the oil.

Good idea make sure they are the black up rated zip ties. Wouldn't want to have to redo it in a few years because the sun got the best of it...

Conrod broke in half, bottom is still bolted to the crank. I rememeber when it happened that he rebuilt the engine because aircon compressor belt came off and took the fan belts off as well and the motor got cooked. Now after all the years ive been on here i,ve learnt sheding belts is abad harmonic balancer ,,so maybe it started the saga ,why a rod would break in half though, youd think it hydralocked for that.

Ours broke at the piston pin bush.guessed it was the piston pin bush failed, our engine had about 1000 hours on it.Pistons 5&6 had valve inprints on them, as cam gets broken when the rod vents the block.

OR, the cam broke causing the valves to hit piston, breaking the rod. |
