Before post pounders and wire rollers, fencing was always a challenge. One of our neighbours died of a heart attack after a day of pounding posts by hand. Yay progress! And the allis look great.

watch out Phil. first it will be your tractor and then they will invite you over to work on it. leave a forwarding address and directions for the fuel shut off on your wf if you deceide to make the trip..........we're all here for ya.......

you mentione the Hutterite boys, are they all as wacko as the colony on the TV show or is it like the rest of the "reality" shows the find the strangest to make good TV?

I'll take some pics today of the setup and post them. It belongs to my neighbor and we share it around three farms. I do any repairs and maintenance.

Hope you don't wilt in the heat Phil.My B also works well on my pounder until I get in the hills.Not enough weight.So I usually use a D17

Brett and Allis Chalmers Guy. Here are some pics of the post pounder setup with the B. The 'B' handled the weight on some pretty rough ground with no problem, even with a full load of 7ft posts on the rack.

Looks great phil,love the Landrover too!I mounted my pump on the pounder & run it with a 6hp engine.That way the "borrowers"don't need to borrow the tractor too.
My B needs those rear wheel weights.Know anybody with a set that might be for sale?

Boy, does that bring back memories. This is the first I ever heard of a post pounder though. Dad neglected to ever mention there was a machine for doing this. We had a fence trailer which was really just the back half of a Chevy pickup. Posts,etc laid in the bed. We also used a post in the rear stake pocket of the bed to mount a roll of barb wire for unwinding. Our post pounder(aka-ME) usually rode in the trailer too so that I was high enough to get a good square hit on top of the posts with the 16lb fence post mall. Thanks for posting your pics.

Lionel, we too never had a post pounder on the farm...that was back in the 60's and 70's. I have not seen the pencil sharpened posts around here. 2 years ago I saw a fellow pound posts with it mounted on a 560 Farmall. It was mounted on the front side of the tractor. The posts he put in where not sharpened. Just a square cut wood post.
I have some fence to make someday and would like to find one to use in my area. I may end up using a 3 pt post hole digger.

That was a big fencing job. 8 ft. posts on corners and stays. the rest were 7 ft. and 6 ft. Pencil-sharpened posts are the only type I've seen around here for many years. Anyway, cows and calves are now in the pastures and happy!!
