Volunteer Roundup ready corn was solid and way ahead of the stuff the neighbor planted so I made it look like this with the 45 and 3-14 plow. I don't have the TB set up so this clay worked the snot out of the 45 in a few places.
This morning I took the old worn out disc out there and knocked some of the clumps down a bit. After a a |

Hey every food plot disc is worn out! And the cultipakers, and the drags, but it all works!

I purchased a 6' roto tiller last year. Now, I turn the ground with the plow and then run the roto tiller over the plowed ground. Lots quicker than disking and makes for a better seed bed. Most golks around here like oats and I now broadcast the oats over the tilled seed bed then set the tiller 2-3" deep and mix the seeds in the soil and finally run the cultipacker over everything. It used to take 2-3 years to make a decent food plot; the roto tiller can make a great one the 1st year.

Looking good. How big is the plot?
Ill start tilling my clover plots tommorow. Got it sprayed a couple weeks ago.
I also use a 45 and worn out tillage equipment, but it all works great for plots.
None of mine are over an acre so grains are outta the picture.

Looks really good Charlie, nice disc. We no-tilled Round Up Ready corn in the food plots that we planted in wheat last fall , corn looks real good, but, need rain. I took some pics today also, will try to post pics soon, got new phone today, and not sure about card storage. Hopefully, will not have to spray Round Up because of no weed issue.

The patch tilled up is about 60 feet wide and maybe 150 feet long. The old feller across the road from me rented this farm for years. His nephew runs it now but a fellow from near the Windy City owns the pasture and lets me hunt with him.
Last year I disced up the narrow patch on the left and sowed RR soybeans. They stood real well all winter and this spring when it got tore up with the field cultivator, the beans sprouted, so we left em. Turkeys have already been in both the beans and the corn but the corn was just solid green. Probably wouldn't have made even good fodder so I tore it up to replant. Eventually I hope to start some Ladino clover in some of it. The deer don't stay close by when hard winter sets in cause there is better cover a 1/3 of a mile west in about 80 acre timber. This old pasture is getting thick enough they might staying in it in bad weather. I'm thinking the Ladino clover might help keep them close by. |

My son in law has a patch and the deer come from his neighbors timber all winter to dig through the snow for it. Sometimes he even takes the snowplow on the truck out there to clear it off and save them some digging.
