I am getting a D12 III together and have a complete power steering from an I-40 to put on in place of the standard armstrong steering.
Question is where can I get new hydraulic lines made for the pressure lines and also the cylinder lines for the ram, these are part steel and part hose?
Next question is would a custom cylinder mount be objectional should someone want to restore this tractor in the future?

Joe, are you going to have full hydrastatic power steering? I've found a parts D-10 with power steering and plan to install the power steering on my D-12 III. I have seen it done. You can do what you want, its your tractor. It would be wise not to modify anything to the extent that it couldn't be put back to originial by the next owner.

Hello Joe I have an I-40 that leaked bad around the valve area, bought new lines and fittings bent and formed to fit. Try a hyd shop. Good luck

Joe I'd like to do the same to my D12, but it is hard to take that first step. No power steering sucks on these tractors when you put a loader on them. Doesn't help when they have a crappy steering box to begin with!

Hi Joe
The point I was hinting at is - to my understanding - SOME Hydrostatic steering does not have a direct link betwwen the steering box and the front wheels. SOOOOO if a hydraulic line breaks the wheels immediately turn hard left or hard right to the end of maximum travel. Not sure if this would be the case with a D-10 with "Factory" PS. Gary

Power steering on the D-10/12's is actually a power assist to the mechanicial steering.
I-40/400 has full hydrastatic steering with no mechanicial connection to the steering wheel.

Many AC models have hydrostatic steering and I have never heard of an accident because of it...I did have a 170 once that I had to keep turning the steering wheel in order to go straight on a sidehill, otherwise all the models I have had have worked well and have "fingertip" steering.
