    Posted: 09 Jan 2012 at 8:11am
I bought these sway blocks on a farm sale and I'm wondering what tractor/s they come off of? Any educated guesses? The first one has a casting number of AM 5548 and also a FM is stamped under that. The second one has a casting number of AM 5382-1 and RH is stamped under that
Top view of the first one
And the bottom,

Top of the 2nd one notice the tab at the left of the picture

and the bottom

One or both of these could have come from a 210 or 220, but I have no way to cross the casting number I'd like to know a tractor they come from or a part number that the casting number crosses to.

The top one is what I have on my D17IV and should be the same as 170-185.

The bottom one looks to me like a 210-220?

Sorry, to ask such a silly question, however what do you use a "sway block" for??  I've been around A-C for over 20 years and never heard this term.  Thanks for any assistance and apologize for my ignorance.  Going orange is going great!

Sway block are mounted on the inside of the lower 3 point arms to keep them from swaying back and forth or take the clearance away on how far the 3 point can move from side to side when hooked up to a 3 point implement.  Some blocks mount on the arms or the drawbar hitch housing sides or both.

The painted orange piece is a sway block in use on a series IV factory 3pt.
The one in the picture should be the same as the very top picture.

Travis, isn't that a little overkill on the drink holder?  Oh, I see now, it's a cover for the hitch ball!  LOL

Used to be a Shallower block for Cat 1 attachments as on my 180, does anyone still repro those? Would seriously consider a buy of those. No blocks is WAY too loose, cat 2 blocks can be too wide and have to be pulled then back to wide swinging.

For whatever reason, Cat 1 sway blocks are not easy to find.  All the new ones you can find on EBay are the Cat 2 ones.  I use mostly Cat 1 implements on our D17 IV with factory 3 ph.  I found one Cat 1 sway block years ago, then finally found another one last Oct, so it only took me probably 3 years to finally get both.

Before I found this one, I had cut a block of hardwood out, which held up quite well for mowers and such.  I had thought of just fabricating one from steel, or cutting off the excess steel on the Cat 2 ones readily available.  EBay does seem to have them come up once in a while, but they are not easy to find for sure.
