WD45 hydraulic fluid

I run 10-30 engine oil in mine.  Dad has 821 hy-tran in his.  Both get along fine.

My seal between the hyd and trans has been shot for years. I run transmission/hydraulic fluid in both compartments and let it mix. No problems in 20 years.  

       79fordblake how do you keep the hy-trans from absorbing moisture? I use to run it in every thing but come spring it always looked like milk, do you have the same problem?

mine said cylinders extended on the dipstick

     79ford my IH560 is the worst at absorbing moisture but it is parked in an old bank barn basement an it is high in moisture down there, my IH175c crawler is parked outside it does it too but very mildly it is also used a couple times a week year round where the 560 is only used 5 or 6 times a year. My Allis's do it mildly too but my Ford 6600 that is used all summer is pretty bad at moisture also. Other than price I really like the oil, noticeably lower temps and better wet clutch and brake function, I could live with the high price if I didn't have to change it so often. A year or so ago I was on an IH forum, they were discussing the same problem and a person claimed that the oil was designed to absorb moisture and if left in an open container it would pull moisture from the air. I thought about running a moisture canister on the 560 to see if that helped (the one that look like there full of kitty litter and change color as they absorb). I have been switching away from it but just know I am increasing wear by doing it.

Yeah,read the fine print on the dipstick.An extra quart won't hurt if doing lots of loader work. Used 10-30,15-40 and now hy-tran.All work.
