One more question on the 7000. My brakes both act differently, and I am not sure which is correct. My left brake will nearly lock up the wheel without much force at all on the pedal, almost like an "on-off" switch when you hit a certain point in the pedal travel. The other brake is much smoother, but it will not lock up the wheel. I took it apart to clean the balls and ramps, and the balls are still round. I am not sure if the ramps are worn or not, but I could make the assembly spin out by hand with the springs off of it. I didn't take off the left side because I was assuming that this was how the brakes were supposed to be (take very little effort to lock up the wheel). The seals were replaced a couple years ago and I didn't have any signs of leakage, but one side did have some leakage before the seals were done. The discs on the right assembly that I took apart seemed like they had plenty of life left in them. The ribs were still clearly defined in the disc. I know the plates are pretty pricy, and after spending quite a bit on the powershift rebuild and needing to buy fluids to give the tractor it's yearly service, I am a little short on cash to buy new discs, but if it's something that can be fixed without expensive parts, I'll give it a try.

My 200 done that , reworked the brakes they were great - a year later one would lock up , had to stand on the other to get any response ; another awful AC design

Got Kevlar coated brake discs from South Bend Clutch in South Bend, In. years ago for my 210. cured the problem.

That might be something to look into. I have a clutch shop locally that does brake discs, I just wonder if he would mess with the old linings, as I believe they're asbestos based and are bonded onto the center disc with the splines...

South Bend Clutch did ask for my "old" cores, but sent me brand new disks. they gave me a few bucks for the old ones I dont remember how much. I do know the new ones were not cheap, but at least it fixed the problem. |
