My 7060 AC compressor locked up the other day. Any ideas on what happend? Can they be rebuilt? Where would I get parts? Do they cross over to other manufacters? Does anyone on here sell them aftermarket?

It should be a Delco A6 compressor. Quite common and available as a rebuilt unit. I think I would take my broken compressor to an auto parts store and let them match it up. The compressor should be the same, but clutches could be different. There are probably better units for R134A conversions, but my 7050 seems to work fine with the A6 and R134A. It never froze you out with R12, and it still has pretty much the same performance with 134.

I replaced the one on my 7050 a couple years ago. I bought one from Oreilly's for $280 I think. Since then Im an Ag parts dealer and can get them. Wouldn't know a price without calling them tomorrow but I would say you would be be better off buying one local because of time and shipping.
As for being rebuilt I dont think you can the compressor but you can the clutch on the end. Most likely cause would be low on oil or old age, make sure you put oil in the new one though because they just come with a little.

I probably should have added it is a '76 red belly (not sure if that matters). I have a compressor of my black belly 7080 but it looks different and I am not sure if its good or not. Is there an easy to test them with out installing it, charging it and running it? |

Lack of oil is what causes them to seize. Before you replace the original, you need to check for debris in the system. Most of the time when a compressor seizes it shreds itself and you will find metal particles in the expansion valve. If it has a receiver/dryer on the high pressure side, sometimes it catches all the metal. At minimum you need to replace the receiver/dryer or accumulator whichever it has along with the expansion valve. The expansion valve could be a simple orifice tube or a thermal type. Then you will want to flush the system out. Brake cleaner and compressed air works well for this. If there is any left over metal in the system, it will wipe out your new compressor.
Most of the time I have gotten a rebuilt compressor, it has had a full oil charge in it, but you need to check for sure. You will need a clean measuring cup that has ounces on it.
