At least it's new to me. Was watching the tube and caught a program showing them blasting with dry ice. It was really impressive. They were blasting the covers of old books. It didn't hurt the book, but cleaned off the crud. They also were doing restoration on burned structures, removing the burned material to make the structure usable again. I'm sure it would work on tractors, and especially any delicate parts you don't want to hit with sand, or other coarse media. Pretty cool program. |

Is used in many places and has both a abrasive effect and from extreme cold a shrinking factor that removes the material from base material. Watched them use it in refinery where no sparks or abrasives could be left on valves or controls on loading racks and other areas.
Removed asphalt from racks, platforms , loading spouts with ease, and clean up was minimal as only thing left behind was material removed, CO2 was released as dry ice evaporated.

Sounds good, but will lead to global warming with all that Co2 released...

I saw it used to remove mold from lumber in an attic on Holmes on Homes one day! Very slick operation!

I'd love to get my hands on that equipment for a day and get all the paint off my brick house.

What can I say, I was born with a smart ass!
But really, it does sound cool. not have to worry about getting rid of the sand that ends up everywhere. Gotta be expensive though... Edited by TomYaz - 31 Jan 2011 at 8:59pm |

Cold Jet is right across the street from where I work. I don't know much about the company but thought I would post a link for those interested.

Looks like you can rent the small 40HP unit for $1100 a week. That seems expensive but if you had a few tractors to strip it could be worth it not worrying about getting sand or grit in places you don't want it and the time involved in protecting those areas. Plus clean up after.
