OK so I have the WORST luck with these things....bought an 863 Turbo used 2 years ago....complete POS! Got tired of dumping money in it so Dad and I traded it in on a newer one....the 873 we have now....this thing ran great! Had about 970 hours on it....well it just turned over 1000 hours and it started smoking, and having excessive crankcase pressure....Soooo I take it over to a local place that has a great rep with diesel work because I just couldnt figure out what was up. I did alot of reading and I found out Duetz engines in Bobcats are very prone to blowing head gaskets. Repair shop calls and says someone had it apart before and when they worked on it(apparently rebuilt it) they improperly installed the liners and set one too low....so my machine dropped a liner, cracked the liner, and also cracked the upper lip on the block and ran a crack next to the liner.....so now we're putting 6k in a skid loader thats worth 10k....just my luck....wanted a vent, and also to see if anyone else had problems similar to this with Bobcats or Duetz 1011 series engines.

What all used that engine , I have a Deutz out of NH 783 that is in basket, got it along with machine and would like to clean out shop if anyone can use it : a real low price and it can be yours , pistons and liners are out of block and all in boxes and unsure of why it was tore down , guy I bought machine from had no idea. 3 cyl 50 hp I guess

That engine was used in a TON of equipment....the 1011 series is a 4 cylinder direct injection.

They should of took the hight of the liner lip in 3 or 4 spots after installing the liner. They should of cought that. Every motor I rebuild at detroit diesel I had to do that from 3 cly to 16 cly. Next thing is did they counter bore the block or a bad after market rebuild kit ? I never rebuilt a deutz so I cant say what they may of run into but in my book that should of been cought.

I work for a bobcat dealer. Headgaskets and timing belts, headgaskets and timing belts repeat as neccessary. Newer ones have kubota engines. Little better but if they get the slightest bit hot that head cracks. That and the kubota is kinda a throw away engine. Good and bad depending on how you look at it.

Im not sure when, or by whom it was rebuilt....I called the dealer I bought it from and they are decent to deal with....they had record of a head gasket, but it wasnt bought new their so they didnt have any older records of the maintenance or upkeep of the machine....

Oh so it too some time for the problem to show up. I thought they just did it for you. Its hard to say who did it. That sucks when you spend that much on somthing you didnt think you would have to work on. I have been down that road |

Yeah I'm not too impressed with how this went but what am I to do? I pondered parting it out and cutting losses but that doesnt seem to be the best idea.....the guys that are fixing it have a line to get Surplus Engines....they're new, but overruns....brand new in a crate...the one I have coming is a Series 2011 instead of a Series 1011....the new one is supposed to be more EPA approved(like I care) but a bit more H.P.

They are just like power tech said, the timing belt has a 1500 hours or 2000 hour service interval, but most dont make it that long, The are an interference engine from what i have heard, belt breaks then boom valves hit pistons, I like the bobcat drive system , pumps motors and chain set up, but the deutz engines are bad, around here the 700 series with kubotas bring as much or more than the 800 series, But I have heard that they have good power? |

Actually the belts call for 800 first service but Im told the new replacement belts are good for 5000 hours....the deutz that was in mine ran GREAT...well the one I have now. The last Bobcat I had was GUTLESS.

Had a New Holand 785 with the Perkins 201 and it was a great machine as far as I was concerned, tried out a NH 785 with the Ford in it and thought that was a POC in power and in vibration. Had a JD the same style but couple years newer and another POC balance all wrong and the JD engine had less that he Perkins.
LX190 i ended up with in partner with kid was nice but him and finance co ended up with a problem so my 1/2 went with his somewhere over the rainbow.

I worked at a Bobcat dealer for 10 yeard and never seen this problem. I don't think we ever rebuilt a Duetz engine. I have replaced head gaskets and timing belts. I had to pull a few engines out to fix the oil pan from thr fuel tank wearing through them. If they came in with a no power problem we would change the fuel and air filter and see if that cured it and most of the time it would. The few that it didn't we found the turbo was bad. I didn't even know the Duetz engines had sleeves in them. They are a rather reliable engine and is second best that Bobcat used in my book. The first is the Isuzu that was in the 853. Both of these engines started great in the cold weather. The little Kubota wasn't bad for starting but the new large Kubota is cold blooded. I had to unload these off the Bobcat truck and had to jump start quite a few becouse the battery went dead from cranking on them for so long. I did work on quite a few Kubota's that cracked the head and seen several 743's with dropped sleeves. Matt

I'll show you guys what all is up with it come probably tuesday....it should be done and the guy doing the job is going to hold onto the engine until I see it and take pics before he sends it back for a core.

I bought my 843 in 1985 new to replace 643 and have no complaints. I see guys running skid loaders wide open all the time ,zipping around, hitting their load hard and generally abusing equipment. Just like anything else ,if you take care of it, equipment will last. |

Benny, did this engine blow oil out the dipstick tube too?
Nephews Bobcat started doing that after he changed oil and filter.
