Here's a little rant. All I wanted was to put a new set of fan belts on my D15 diesel since it is already torn down in the shop - easy, right? The AGCO parts book referenced #70233489, so went ahead and ordered them from my local AGCO dealer - they get a lot of business from me. The belts arrived in a plastic bag with a tag indicating part #70233489. The sleeve that contained the belts also read 70233489. I went to put the belts on and they are a mile too long. Looked at the part number on the belts: 70248316V! I contacted my dealer and explained that the numbers on the belts do not match those shown on the sleeve, plastic bag and AGCO website. They said they would look into it. A few days later, they sent me a message stating that 70248316V should be the correct belt. How can it be? It's way too long! They asked for the numbers on the belts that were on the tractor, but the belts are worn and the numbers are not legible. Fast forward a week to today, they send me a message requesting the tractor's year, make, model, serial number, have I owned it from new, AND have the belts ever been changed before... Step by step: 1963 D15 diesel serial number 13963D Bought March 2025 from the original owner - it is older than I am! Have the belts been changed before? I explained that the tractor is 63 years old. I am quite certain that the belts have changed more than a few times - but probably not with AGCO belts. I also mentioned that the belts on the tractor fit perfectly. Waiting to to hear back, but all I wanted was a set of belts that are meant for that tractor. I am not asking for too much! What an ordeal. Does anyone know if AGCO really does have belt number 70233489? I thought they did, but now I am not so sure...

Plop the old belts on the counter at Napa in 5 minutes you’ll be walking out the door with new belts that fit. My go to 6080 has been running Napa belts for several years with no issues. Remember very likely Agco buys belts that meet a certain standard from someone

I would suggest:
Not an endorsement, it's the cheapest I found in a quick search. I picked up one at an antique car show that is about 4'long, for $35. Only reason I paid that price, is it was the longest one I had ever seen, and lawnmower deck belts ain't cheap from the dealer, but if I know the size, I can order them from the v-belt guys for 2/3 less...

i just put a chalk mark at someplace on the OD.. then use a 6 ft tape ruler to go around the OD..... Then see if you need a A or B belt ( etc) ... some belts go by the OD, and some the ID... and there is an online chart to go from one to the other..
----------- Fan belts are generally measured by either their inside circumference (ID/Inner Length) or outside circumference (OD/Outer Length), depending on the belt type and manufacturer. Most classical V-belts (A, B, C, D) are designated by their ID, whereas narrow-section V-belts (3V, 5V, 8V) are usually designated by their OD. 70233489V is the current part number. All they need to do is reorder said belts since the belts and the sleeve do not match. Happens sometimes. Not sure why they can’t figure that out.

Although I applaud you for supporting your local dealer (I'm guessing you also go to Todd's?), for v-belts I'd order online if it were mine: You can likely get a much better quality belt for the same price (or a similar quality belt for a fraction of the price). Agco/Allis belts certainly aren't anything special, nor unique to Agco. I'm ok with paying a higher price to support a local dealer. But belts, bearings and filters often cost oodles more $$ from a dealer than they'd cost elsewhere.
That's just a standard A40 belt (42.2 O/S circumference). And Agco definitely doesn't use the highest quality belts. Same thing with bearings and filters. Agco bearings I've got lately are just KML brand, which is a mid-range offshore brand. Any Agco v-belts I've got (admittedly only Gleaner belts purchased from Agco just because they had them in-stock and I needed them ASAP) were a Bando-brand mid-range, nylon carcass belt. Bandos are an ok belt, but certainly nothing special. Agco filters I've purchased have bounced between Baldwin and 'Agrifilter' (which I think are rebadged purolator filters), and they've used a few other manufacturers in the past. I will give them some credit on their filter choice: They stuck with higher quality Baldwin filters (and still do for some applications) far longer than most other ag companies did.
There are certainly times you want to go with an uber-high quality belt. Some of the trim-saws we make at work, for instance, need specific kevlar-carcass, low-weave, high-tensile, friction-face v-belts. But (as you'll know) a fan belt from a D15 certainly doesn't need anything special. Even the cheapest Chinesium nylon-carcass belt will likely outlive you. And the Agco belt you'll get (if they get you the correct one) won't be anything special. I'd probably order an AX40 (cogged) belt rather than an A40 if it were mine because of the small generator and water pump pulley diameters. Cogged belts don't have to be as tight to transmit the same power around small pulley diameters without slipping, which saves some of the overhung load on the water pump and genny bearings. I like to keep my belts a little looser on old tractors just to be kinder to the pump and genny bearings/seals. But even that's not too critical: Back when they were new they were probably standard A (non-cogged) belts. Edited by DanielW - 5 hours 52 minutes ago at 10:16am |

Besides Batavia, there are only 4 dealers in N. America that stock that # MANY time dealers return parts that were returned to them or the guys in the shop changed the jackets or whatever - it happens. In our nearly 50 years we have some stories of wrong parts, right #s... AGCO has a tag on most parts and can tell you the history.
