Hey yall just got back up from flordia. Put my brother in law on my ol gal and now the clutch won't engage. I figured he knew what he was doing since he runs a crew of asfault guys. I rode with him at first and he got it I thought. After an hour or so he messed her up. When I pulled the floorboard panels up I noticed a rod on the right side that moves with the clutch handle bit it's not connected to anything and I can't find any information on it. Figured I'd see whatbuall think before opening her up and adjusting the clutch on her. Please help.

THE rod should be connect to a other rod with a boot on and she is going in the front transmission  shifting housing and this rod is loock the transmission in gear when the cluch is angaged and this should affect the cluch.

The master need 25lbs to 30 lbs maximum and the cluch should angage with a distinct over-center snap (engine stop)

I am lost as to what is not working.

There is rod that locks the shifter up when the clutch is engaged. Unless that is released it should not come out of gear.  Is that the trouble?

It acts like it's not engaging the clutch when the lever is pulled back. But when I checked the pull it was just over 35 pounds. The floorboards are out and watching the levers it looks like it's working. Bit it won't go in gear when running just grinds

When you pull that handle back you are engaging the main clutch and if transmission is in neutral, it is going to grind if you attempt to put the transmission into a gear. If that rod mentioned were operating correctly, you would not be able to move that shifter with the clutch engaged.

With the handle pushed forward, the clutch is released. You can now shift gears in the transmission. With the transmission in a selected gear position, and the handle pulled back engaging the clutch, the tractor should move and you should not be able to move the transmission shift lever.

If I am reading your postings correctly, the rod mentioned is not connected to the shift mechanism and laying loose. When you push the clutch lever forward, the main clutch is not releasing and continues to spin the transmission? This is either a warped clutch disc, pressure plate, (clutch cover) or sections of the friction material have broken free from their mountings and are binding between the flywheel, and pressure plate of the engine causing a frictional "drag". If clutch adjustment does not solve the issue, clutch apparatus replacement is your next option along with bushings, and any linkage points involved.

From this vantage point I would say it is probably time to replace the clutch assembly.
