Did 1959 D-17s ever come without a lift assembly and if so does anyone have the plate that goes where the assembly goes or where I could get one . Trying to lose some weight on my puller. Thx.

This is as close as they got because the lift housing was still needed to hold the drawbar bail. A Series IV had the drawbar bail attached to the differential housing.
I would guess you could make a two-part plate, with the upper part light steel or aluminum and a lower portion out of 1/4 or 3/8 plate with ears welded to it to hold the drawbar bail? Or, make a completely different bail that connects to the differential housing in another location?

I know they made some D17s into wheatland tractors (sold into wheat country). Not all, but alot of wheatland tractors had no lift assembly, as they usually used larger pull type equipment.

Get a hold of Phil Brown, D17brown. He bult a d17 puller and put a flat plate on the back, no lift arms.

I used .120 aluminum on my 190XT. The two 3\4 bolt holes are more than enough to hold the drawbar on a puller. MACK

get a plate off of a old d17 cotton picker! i have two of them on pullers. flat plate steel 1/2 thick. work well... or just make your own!!!!

when removing the lift arm ass u need to remove pto shaft . i was wondering isnt the pto shaft part of 4th? can u just pulling it out or do u have to get into the tran. im thinking of doing the same when i find a ser 1 d17

My D17 Industrial never had a PTO or the lift arm assembly on it. I belive the back plate on it is the same as an H3 dozer without the PTO. my D17 has two pieces welded near the bottom of the plate that hold the drawbar brackets on. HTH

PTO has nothing to do with 4th, but the PD section and trans will become one section unless you split the tractor and put a plug where the PTO come through the front of trans. MACK

I made my D17 a flatback last summer, our clubs rules don't allow weights outside the the rear tire. I also made a new weight bracket , and bobbed a pair of WD fenders that were cracked and bent at the rear. I also dropped the hydraulic pump and plated that. Here is a link to some photos that are not in any order.I was able to use the nice coated cardboard from one of the many election signs that sprouted last year to good use for a template. Dropped off about 400 lbs. , weighs 4120 with my 210 or so in the seat.

Look again. The lift housing on early D17 has nothing to do with the drawbar.

I forgot to mention I ditched the D17 seat assy, and went with a ford n series pan and spring. refilled all compartments with hy-tran and probaly should have foamed the rear axle , oil is heavy and might have been able to use 5 gal, instead of nearly 10 .
Aluminum weight brackets would probably save another 100lbs.

Thx . those are some great pics. Guess I will take mine of and make one . Right now mine weighs 4300 without me at 320. so I should be able to get in 4500 after all that taken of.

The one Phil Brown had the pto in it. I think he cut the shaft off shortened it and then welded it back togather. Maybe using a couple of angle irons. It was a very neet set up.

Lonn, get ahold of a parts book or go lie on your back under an early 17. The brackets that hold the drawbar bail have two bolts in each of them. The forward bolts tap into the differential housing and the rear bolts tap into the lift housing. I know. I had to replace the lift housing on dad's tractor after the heavy manure spreader pulled the bolts out of the lift housing.

If you are going to make your own draw bar setup, just make a flat plate mine is 1/4", I also machined a bearing retainer to weld into the plate and shortened the PTO shaft so I can still dyno tune. If you would like some photos I can take them this week end, I have trouble can`t seem to post them so send me your email address.

It has been a few years since I monkeyed in that area on any D17 so I'll just take your word for it and it's too cold to get under the 17 right now.

Here is a picture of the flat back plate attached to the transmission/differental on an I600, same as D15, showing the drawbar attaching parts and how they mount up.
