   I am rebuilding my D14 and while painting the transmission housing I see there is an oil seal in the front where the PTO shaft runs through to the torque housing. Both of these housing share the same hydrolic fluids for as long as I have had the tractor. My question is should I replace this seal and change the fluids back to transmission fluid in the transmission and hydrolic in the torque housing?

   There's three compartments on a D14, hydraulic up front, power director in the middle and transmission/rearend. Is the tractor split now? The fluids levels are different between the compartments I believe.  Edited by Gary(VA) - 17 Feb 2024 at 6:03pm | |

   They run the same fluid, but they are at different levels.  If it is already apart, replace the seals on the PTO shaft and the transmission input shaft. | |

   Best answer is fix seals and fill compartments to proper levels. One and done but not the easiest. You have to decide if u want it  fixed or patched.

   Thanks guys.  That all makes sense.  It is apart and now is the time.  I have a few months into the project now.  So what is pone more order for seal going to hurt. lol I did think if there is a seal there must be a reason. | |

   Yes , if it has not been apart before you may find some old leather seals in the middle bottom where the back to back 70227679 seals are located. 70241779 is the rear seal and check the splines on the front of the PTO shaft for burrs. The trans input shaft seal is a pair of 70235847's and you should be all sealed up.
