i had ordered a Square D pressure switch from Amazon that had a delivery date of Dec 29and then received a notice that delivery date would not be met due to "unforeseen Supply Issues" ,,,,? Sounding some familiar,,,,? SO,,really needing the compresor,,,, I opted to accept a no name (china?) pressure switch that they say is their best seller. Got new pressure switch all lashed up and was kinda puzzled as the steel nut and ferral that goes on the 1/4" copper tubing line on the By-Pass line that is on btm side of the pressure switch itself did not fit well and was a tad smaller than the regular 1/4" copper tubing line size,,,WTH???? When compressor reached the 120# shut-off pressure ,,the pressure switch "SPIT" and shut the motor OFF and the metal nut and ferrel connection started to UNLOAD to atmosphere continously until tank pressure got back down to 90# and the by-pass line again "SPIT" and restarted motor and it shut off at 120# like it was susspossed to,,,,, The other pressure switch did not continue to unload to atmosphere,,,SO is there maybe something wrong with this pressure switch,,,??

the pump pushes thru the line, thru a CHECK VALVE and into the tank... The small line from the switch
EDIT... i just looked at my compressor.. The Pressure switch screws to the TANK and measures the pressure.. The little line goes up to the pump discharge line.... Apparently your NEW VALVE is BAD... It should relieve the little line ONLY, not the tank..

i think a lot of them small regulators have a DIAPHRAM on the inlet into the switch.. It will FLEX and read the pressures in the tank, but will not allow the TANK air to get up into the switch.. Your diaphram is broken / leaking.
Take the switch back off and look up inside the threaded pipe nipple to see the diaphram. Edited by steve(ill) - 23 Dec 2023 at 10:52pm |

hmm.. 'did not fit well'.... Chinese use METRIC, so probably designed for 6mm tubing NOT 1/4" tubing. simple test, cut power to motor, does air pissssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss out at the nut/tubing connection ?

Hey Steve,,,I agree with you on the correct flow of the little line and most likely the diaphragm is leaking thru. Ole Jay is correct as well on the different line size as I had to emery cloth the chit out of the 1/4" copper tubing to get the steel nut and ferrel that came with the pressure switch to slide on the 1/4" copper tubing,,,,and I am VERY PIZZED OFF that the Mfgr did not include instructions as to the line size differences AND even more pizzed off that after looking in Lowes, 2 Home Depots, Two other Hardware stores and a True Value trying to find the correct size of tubing,,,NONE of the agents at all those stores had ever heard of a tubing size smaller than standard 1/4",,,,? BUT THEN,,,how are the USA customers suppossed to marry the USA 1/4" copper tubing to the chinese 6 MM tubing,,,,?????? I generally consider myself to be Good Natured,, Casual Thinking,, Friendly and Easy going person,,,but this slight on the part of the Mfgr is just too much and at first opportunity after Christmas,,,Amazon is fixing to catch an EAR FULL from ole Joe!! OK, Guys,,SORRY for the rant,,,gotta go take the chinese chit off and order an American made pressure switch,,,AFTER verifying with the Mfgr of the nut and ferrel size before ordering. OH,,,and IM4RACIN,,,

Joe.... its everywhere.... 10 years ago i had a 2002 truck that had a "bad spot" in the brake line that sat up against the truck frame under the seat area... I bought a 10,000 psi Compression fitting at NAPA for a 1/4 inch line .... Well the "FITTING" was actually 6 mm or .236 inch.. YEP... 14 thousands SMALLER than the 1/4 inch line.... Had to lay under the truck and sand off the OD of the pipe to get it to fit !!!

Well,,,I tried several times today to get thru to Amazon with NO LUCK,,,!! I was 43 in Que when I finally hung up But they will hear my rant tamorrow,, I KNOW it is not Amazon's fault but they should take the feedback to their supplier's,,so they can address theose issues,,altho they prolly won't do CHIT about it,,,,!! I never knew there was even a tubing line in that 6MM size and I'll wager that not very many others in this USA do either,,!! As an Update,,,I found the problem right after removal of the pressure switch from the tank. The 4 screws on the diaphragm side of the pressure switch were loose caausing the leak. After tighting them, I did look at the diaphragm and it looked good from what little I could see of it, but it works as suppossed to and does relieve to atmosphere for bout 2 seconds to relieve pressure in the line between the check valve and the pump,,,, Many THANKS for all the kind words,,,,!!

sounds like your back in business !! ........ If your still interested in finding a section of 6 mm tubing , GOOGLE 6mm BRAKE LINE ... you can buy sections of it at AMAZON or Auto Parts stores... Come with various fittings on the ends... Some metric, some 1/8 inch pipe, etc..

I hear you, Steve,,,at least I had the 1/4" copper tubing in a vice and using some emery cloth in two and it still took me about 1 1/2 hours to get it sanded down to where the dang ferrel and the nut would go on the line,,,, So,,, I can imagine how long it took you on your back and under the trk,,,, I did go to Oreilly's and they had never even heard of the chinese 6MM tubing size,,,,what a mess,,,!!,

the two sizes are 14 thousands different.. I think in the US we have 1/4 inch... If it comes from CHINA it is "Metric 1/4 inch" which is 6 mm..... 90% of the time it probably dont make any difference as long as the FITTINGS on the end match up... But if your using the TUBE by itself, that can be a problem..... many NEW trucks have gone to 6 mm brake lines.

Since 99.44% of whatever we buy is/was Made in CHINA, you need to assume it's ALL METRIC. The best tool I've bought was a digital caliper ! They all have a mm/inch button....allows you to SEE the actual size of stuff AND convert from their number to NORMAL numbers ! What I hate are 'hybrids' like my Kubota tractor. Engine/drivetrain is 100% Metric(Made in Japan), loader and backhoe...Imperial ! ( Made in Georgia,USA...)

When I was working on my Mig's issues I decided to buy "American" and ordered a Complete LINCOLN brand torch,,(whip) because it is such an important part of a mig performing well,,,,,,What came in the mail was a colorful box with LINCOLN stamped all over the box and after opening the LINCOLN box,,,,the nozzle, torch and all the small parts included were ALL stamped "Made In China",,,,,,,,,

Look on the bright side.... YOU didn't spend 10 HOURS tearing half the dash off YOUR Ford to replace a $20 piece of plastic the size of a sugar cube to make the PRNDL work WITH the gear shift lever, then ANOTHER 3 hours to put 10 pieces of dash back on.... dang, wonder if they still sell sugar cubes anymore ? dbl dang, anyone remember sugar cubes ????

Yeah,,Jay,,the thing that gets me even tho it ain't Amazon's fault is that them jobs like you describe,,is always finish lashing up and then you got to try to solve where all them friggin parts are left over from,,,,!!! ![]() ![]() Yeah, Steve,,My GF has been trying to teach me to be more tolerant of others because Most times, you cannot effect a quick change anyway,,,,?? ![]() The thing I like about Amazon is that if you are a Prime member, you DO get special attention,,,, ![]() |

Just finished replacing the rear brakes on my 1981 Parisienne Brougham. Our local Canadian Tire Store has the Metric 6 mm Brake Line right along side their Imperial 3/16, 1/4, and 5/16 Brake Line. G |
