Between repairing a tree stand and cleaning up a tree that fell across a trail, I ruined several pairs of socks with these little bastards. Terrible to extract, pair of socks isn't worth the effort. They are thick this year. Beggars lice is what my neighbor calls them. Wonder if that means we are in for a bad winter

Yep,  the 'stick tights' are about the size of a big grain of rice and the cockleburs are as in previous post... both can do damage to a pair of socks...

cockleburrs grow every other year, if you can cut the plant off while the burrs are still green then you won't have them the 3rd year. I had a burr problem in one field and I cut them like that for several years, piled them and when they dried out...burned the pile. that field is now burr free for past 15 years or so.

Just had to cut one off the dogs fur on it's belly , tried getting the fur out but gave up on that after a few minutes and out came the scissors.
Never had them when I had horses out back , seems ticks were fewer also then , flies not so much .
