What's the difference between the two? One's a 3 speed and one's a 4 ? Just wondering. Thanks

CA is a 4 speed, spin out rear wheels , better hydraulic pump , slightly heavier rear axle housings...........
basically same engine , radiator, sheetmetal, tires... CA is a "newer model" of the C.
a lot of the parts can be installed between the two as assemblies.

Don't forget the CA has pto that will spin while the tractor slows or stops. Not exactly live pto, but much improved over the C...

as DAVE said, the CA has a hand clutch on one rear axle to disengage travel while maintaining the main clutch drive thru to the PTO shaft... Thats an advantage... but 90% of the ones you buy WILL NOT WORK after 60 years... Most need rebuilt.

If your agility has diminished such as mine has, the C (and B) with the flat seat and backrest is fairly difficult to mount and dismount; the CA has a pan seat without the back rest and is somewhat easier for the aged and infirm

I think of 10 improvements (1) HP, (2) hydraulics, (3) 4 speed trans, (4) heavier axle, (5) draft control, (6) seat shock, (7) hitch, (8) hand clutch [Rick rebuilt mine], (9) live PTO, and (10) spin out rear wheels.

CA also has an increase in horsepower of about 11% over the C. They increased the compression ratio to 6.25:1 and increased the max RPM (don't know what else). This in part to enable support for a 2-bottom plow.

After 70 years, most of them have probably been rebuilt with an "overbore" kit. That can further increase HP from about 26 stock to about 29, nearly equal to a stock WD.

My Father said the CA was the perfect tractor for the Roto-Baler. Just enough hp to notice the engine sound change as the hay condition changed during the day. Dad said a trained ear would know when the baler needed adjustment, by listening to the engine.

I’ve owned 7 CA’s and have 3 now. Just my opinion but pound for pound I believe that the CA’s were the strongest tractors Allis ever built.
