If so, YOU can be tracked !!! Michelin embeds RFID chips into their tires, over 4 million now, ALL by 2024 ! They say it's to better manage the tires from 'cradle to grave'(their word !) as well as have the car's computer adjust 'stuff' for those specific tires. Once RFID scanners are installed at 'key points' (highway in/out, major crossroads,gas stations) it's super easy to track your car. Just another way for 'them' to spy on you.
please don't 'kill the messenger'.....

Tire would have to be registered to car and owner to mean much. Sure some of this data can be used for good but like anything a bad person can use it for evil. They have onstar or some form of it on vehicles, great when you are in an accident or some other emergency. They can already track us. If they have a sensor on a street you live on it may tell them you drive past that point 10 times a day sometimes.

Never buy them - cant get any miles out of them , junk - gal pal bought a 18 Equniox withem , 32,000 miles one belts twisted and then just came apart- never ever buy them !! Now especially being chipped - NO

The only Michelin’s we have are on our class A motorhome. It’s a 1995 with OBD I. The last tires we purchased went on the wife’s car, decided on Coopers because they are manufactured in the USA. 👋

You can always pull the battery, or put the the cell phone in a lead lined box. Some claim if you wrap aluminum foil around the phone, that will also work.

Why do that? I have absolutely nothing to hide.
It makes me wonder about the people that are worried that they are being tracked. What are they afraid of?

Will continue to use them. It's the only tires I have ever used on my 94 for 28 years other than the set that came on it from the factory. I think those were Uniroyal.

A tin foil hat is a hat made from one or more sheets of aluminum foil, or a piece of conventional headgear lined with foil, shields the brain from threats such as electromagnetic fields, mind control, and mind reading.This also disrupts the tracking rays used by the government, corporations and aliens. Unless you like having probs stuck up where the sun don't shine, use atleast two layers of REYONLDS Aluminum Foil. Putting aluminum foil in the hub caps helps deflect radar and tracking devices. NOTE: The more crumpled the foil the better...

Ohh......jay doesn't carry a cell phone. Knows what's in 'em. And now we're, what, supposed to be "spooked" by a RFID in a tire? (I'm more of the BFD camp.) If not, then why say it? But he's cool being chipped himself.  Says there's not enough power for it to "matter".....K, but what about what reads it, what's that connected to? And what's it relate to???? But, an atheist doesn't need to worry about that either. Oh well.....ain't it a fun ride?

Me too. Only thing I used on service vans, 16", load range E, get 60k miles out of a tire, couldn't get 50k out of any other brand. Doesn't pay the bills to have service techs sitting around a tire shop. Nothing else on the wife's car, she's kinda worth it.

I posted about it ,as it's interesting that they ,and the RFID mfr Murata, figured out HOW to embed the tags in a 'hot rubbery mess'. Got me wondering IF the tire shop actually tells the buyer they have RFID tags in them,does Michelin require you to sign a TOU agreement ?. While Michelin talked about tracking them , the article didn't say what the real benefits are or WHO would have access to the information. I can see 'head office' getting the info for 'quality control and recall purposes' but to say that Ford vehicles (and others) will scan the tires and 'readjust the suspension for optimal handling experience' is , well, kinda far fetched. Technically possible,though they'd also need to scan for temperatures,GPS location( for road data), speed, etc. It becomes a LOT of 'high tech' that we do NOT need to drive a friggin car. Being chipped could be a life saver. Say you're hand is severed off in a car crash, you 've lost your Medic Alert bracelet, pass out and the emerg pumps in some 'life saving chemicals' that YOU are allergic to. Oopsy. BTW 'scanners' have to be within inches to read the tags. Not too sure WHAT religion has to do with RFID tags in car tires....
While on the surface you might not care about who gets the data on your tires, it's personal info that should NOT be accessible to anyone but YOU.

Again, I say that anyone that carries a cell phone is giving up personal data.
We have Amazon Echo's throughout the house and garage. Many people say they are constantly listening to everything that is said.
I'm sure there is technology to do surveillance from satellites.
The trucking company that my daughter used to work for had a semi stolen in Texas a few years ago. The GPS in the truck led the police to the location of the stolen truck in Mexico.
Chips in tires? My feeling is, if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear. |

except getting a zillion ads/emails/calls from someone wanting to sell you 'stuff'. 'they' buy the list of tire buyers ,then 3-4 weeks later you get bombarded with sales for tire cleaners, rims, fast food outlets, etc.
say the car computer misreads what tires you do have on, makes adjustments to the ride and car mishandles, you crash, kill a few people. can't happen you say ?? better read up on 737MAX crashes.
pretty soon they'll tag your box of Cherrios, though they already sell fridges that KNOW what's inside, how often you open,close,get water, etc. Roomba and NEST were(still ?) sending your data to a 'server ,somewhere'. FITbits webpage located a secret military base years ago....That one was both funny and scary.
While you may not have anything to hide, EVERYONE has a few things they'd NOT like JQPublic to KNOW.

Those in DC have a new drive on now - Ability to disable new vehicles by police to stop stolen vehicles and or pursuit in chasing vehicles , along with location of vehicles . Think of it as On Star with someone else in charge of your car. Yes the GPS tracking is a big industry now with Construction equipment tracing for theft or unauthorized use outside or rented for areas . Working for a city a while back and Sunbelt Rentals equipment on job had GPS along with download capacity for hours of use , fault codes of machine along with location where it is or was .

I just saw a commercial today advertising GMC's self driving pickup truck where you let it do the driving just like the Tesla. Wonder how many that will kill. Guess in 10 years everything will have it.😞

Yes, the reader has to be within inches to read the tag. But again: IT DOESN'T STOP THERE! What is the reader connected to?!!! From that point on, that information scanned literally can be world wide. And just how many things will that chip be required to be scanned for? What information will be put on there that ya' don't know about? Pretty important stuff. And those are just examples, I have many many more.
Btw, as for "religion", that there would be about your microchip in person, not a car tire.. ..would have thought that was extremely obvious.

Being the positive thoughts person that I am (sometimes) I think the RFID chips in tires would be used for information for the tire maker.
Tire blows out, premature wear out, sidewall issues, etc... the tire technician scans the tire and it goes back to Michelin. Michelin gathers all this information and notices a trend that tires made from XX/XX/XXXX to YY/YY/XXXX all had the same issue. This would allow them to quickly identify the issue and possible recall if serious enough. Also identify where the tires were sold and what (originally) they were installed on.

I wonder how that would work? Dont those things need a battery like the tire pressure sensors? I've sold s a lot of Michelin pickup tires. Highway driving, doing milage tests against other brands, they would roll more miles with less shake than any other brand. Firestone and Cooper came close. I'm going to put a set on my pickup since its basically a delivery vehicle. If I can find the LRR style, I'll use them.

Well it just gives the dumbasses more permission to pay less attention driving then they already do. There is just so many things to check on the phone then to be bothered with the monotony of driving.

RFID tags do not require a battery. They get the energy they need from the 'reader' or 'scanner' RF signal. 'energy harvesting' is 'old tech'. I used to use local AM radio station to power my transistor radios..6 decades ago.
The tag converts the weak RF radio signal from the reader into a DC voltage, and stores it into a small capacitor. Once enough electrons are available, it then communicates with the reader.

Have Michelin tires on my 2016 Super Duty F 250, 105,000 miles out of the original set, rotate every 10,000 miles, already have 20,000 miles on my new set. First time ever to own Michelin tires.
