I watched an episode of "HOW IT'S MADE" yesterday and an "inductor" was one of the items. They stated that this "unit" stored electricity but not for what application or voltage Confused. What/where is this apparatus used ?? Is it similar to the  capacitor on a large electric motor ?  Thanks

A capacitor "stores" voltage.  An inductor is sort of like a buffer to stabilize current.  An inductor stores energy in a magnetic field, that resists changes in current in a circuit.  A capacitor resists changes in  voltage or "stores voltage" in an electrical field.

Inductors(chokes)  are used all over the place though you're more familiar with 'transfomers' which can be considered 2 chokes sharing a common magnetic core.
If you ever had a crystal radio, it used both a choke and capacitor, wired in parallel, to 'tune' into the various radio stations .
Inductors(chokes) are also used to slow down or 'filter out' unwanted signals from getting into electronic devices.
