I remember when one of my more progressive young farmers bought the first one I ever saw. It had 24.5x32 tires on it. That and a 12 row notill AC planter. And a new m or L gleaner combine. We all thought he was pooping in tall clover. I put a lot of diesel fuel through his tank. His dad had Case. He switched to my fuel too. It was a great stop. I could drop a half load of fuel at their place. Then the son rented 900 acres of bottom ground. I took him a 500 gallon overhead tank to that farm. After the coop I leased my trucks to bought them and I started the tire shop, we put a lot of tires on those guys tractors. I wish I knew what happened to his 8550, 12 row planter, later his 7580, 7060, 185 with light lift loader, his TD 24 crawler.

It's cool to see stories and interest in these old Allis tractors. At one time my Dad had nearly everything AC so it is what I grew up with. WD, WD45, All Crop Harvester, belly mount sickle mower, pto driven side delivery rake, Roto baler, Neighbor had a round bale loader that fit on his C ?? tricycle front end, "my" first tractor was a B, later D19, AC/Jeffroy chisel plow, much later 1978 Gleaner L2 Windrow Special, bought my 8550 in 1986, 8070 MFWD. In 1989/90 I did a repower on the 8550 with a NTC350 Cummins Small Cam. It has worked out very well and was one of my main tractors till 2002 and working 2800 hours. Since that it has been a reliable standby to do harrowing, preworking low spots before seeding and land breaking pulling the 28' JD Swinger disc, tow tractor, PTO pump. Lots of odd jobs for lots of years. After I retired 2015 I kept an employee on and we restored several pieces. 1965 IH 1206, 1983 8070 MFWD, 1979 8550 was the last one. This tractor is in amazing good condition and after fixing a few little oil leaks, lights, and repainting, it works as it always has. Very well! I am selling off the big sheds and farmland so the time has come to sell some of these old treasures. Most people now don't know what an 8550 is, much less have spent 6,000 hours behind the wheel of one! This forum seems like a good place to ask if anyone might be interested in giving her a good home and having an amazing conversation piece. Or to put it to work and earn it's keep for a few more decades! If you are interested give me a call at 780 662 2614 in Alberta.
PM me if you want some photos by email. My photo files are too big to send here. |

Hi DougG I would be happy to send you some pictures of my 8550 but the forum system will not load pictures with 4-5,000 MP. If you send me an email address I can send them that way. Photobucket used to downsize the files to the required size but that seems to not work anymore. Does anyone else have a solution to this? Even Iphones now have such high resolution the forum can not load, even one at a time. |
