 Topic: Top dead center

Please bear with me on this question. I am trying to find top dead center for cylinders 1 and 4 on the engine in my D15 Series II. I need to adjust the valves. I see the mark on the flywheel that says “Center” . Where do I go from there? Greatly appreciate any words of wisdom.

Easy way is to remove spark plug, and stick a pencil, or wooden dowel down the hole, rotate the crank by hand, till the piston rises no more.
Also, the center mark on the flywheel should be in the center of the window, on the torque housing, right side of tractor...

(CENTER) is Top Dead Center without the top dead.

When exhaust closes and intake starts to open on #4, #1 is at TDC. Same with #2 and 3. MACK

When it is at top dead center two valves on one of the cylinders are closed and can be set at that point. That means the rocker arms are up as high as they can get with both valves sealed tight ready to fire or ready for the gap to be set. You can follow the firing order each revolution as the TDC line is in the center of the inspection hole to set the gaps. I was taught back in the 1950's to set the valve gap one cylinder at a time as well as find the firing order of any engine this way.
