 Topic: CA 2 Bottom Plow

Gentlemen,
Got our old CA put back together and hooked up to the Snap Coupler 2 bottom plow that we had in the barn that was used years ago. I'm having trouble getting it to a sweet spot in depth without it diving way too deep, digging the back tires in and popping up the front wheels and not moving and barely skimming the ground. I'll try to get some photos of the setup but looking for advice.
I do not have any ballast in the rear tires or weights on the tractor anywhere and I am running in first gear.
Any advice is much appreciated!

1st Adjust you hydraulic pump for "Traction-Booster" That will allow you to find a spot on the lift lever to what you can pull. The crank at the top of the plow is for depth. You should be able to get this set so you can lower your lift lever all the way and only need to raise it in tough spots. Worn out shares will make a plow pull hard and not go in the ground at proper settings.

My father had a CA, 2 bottom flip plow, calcium in the rears, side weights in the front and we had no issues. Bet if you weight it up you would see a positive change.

you have to adjust the beaming screw. when its set correctly the plow follows and the correct depth with the hyd all the way down. the traction booster its then set to produce down force when the pulled load become to much. lengthen your beaming screw to bring the front of the frog up.
if you change the plow to a different tractor or change tires or even the spinout adjustment you need to readjust it.

you shouldn’t need any weight to pull a 2 bottom plow unless you have some tuff soil. The traction-booster will help for weight. I’m leaning towards the plow and or the tractor not being setup correctly. Can you send me pictures of both tractor and plow? A back view of the tractor and a front and top view of the plow would be great!

Number 1 thing, is to have your hydraulics set for 'traction booster'. If you have used the plow before and it worked OK, you shouldn't have to make any adjustments on the plow itself.

The plow has been in our barn for well over 15 years and I have no idea the last time it was actually used, that's kind of my dilemma. I think I'll monkey with it some more and end up adding some weight to the front. How do I adjust the traction boost?

WOW, you're WAY the other side of the state.
Do you have the manual for the CA?
You need to FIRST set up the linkage for the pump. The directions are all in the manual. If you need help with that, PM me your email address and I'll copy it from mine and send you it. I'm not on here everyday, so have patience.
Once you have it set up for "Drawbar Control", you'll have no problems. The 'Traction Booster' system has 3 settings; Drawbar Control, Delayed Lift and Hold Position.

Place the left rear tire on an 8" block adjust the plow so both shares are setting flat on the ground. Hydraulic really dont have anything to do with plowng. A trip lift plow dosent have any hydraulics. The idea is to set the plow so it pulls correctly. If you insist on fightly the plows natural pull line your going to need a bigger tracto. Youll still have a crap looking field but a big tractor will over come a poorly set up ploe
