Yesterday. I was in the middle of scraping up some very hard thinset. I asked if they wanted to help. They scattered like Elizabeth Warren supporters at a job fair.

This was the women’s folk. Last time they caught Jenn when my mom was here.🤣🤣🤣
They were shocked to see me.
I liked them two elderly gals. They were very nice. I did listen to a bit and then invited them to scrape thinset.

Chask across the hwy is a welding shop owned by a father and son. Super good guys. We all belong to the same Blacksmith organization. They like old cars and trucks. When they come by we usually wind up out in my shop lookin at stuff.
They still give me the message.

One afternoon a few years ago I decided to walk around our acreage to air dry after getting out of the hot tub. Our yard was fairly secluded with a chain link fence around the finished part of the yard and a motorized chain link fence at the top of the driveway. I was about 2/3rd's of the way from the house walking toward the gate when I noticed two ladies on the other side. Since I had been fully visible from when I left the house I decided I might as well keep on walking. They were JW's, one was about my age and the other younger. The older lady proceeded to tell me about their pamphlet and the young lady had the pamphlets. The younger lady was obviously embarrassed when she had to come over to me to hand out the pamphlet. It was all about Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden. How appropriate. I really dropped the ball though. I should have invited them in to fully experience my Garden of Eden. I don't that JW's ever dropped by again.

AND,,I DO agree with ole Chask on this one. They is mostly GOOD in all religions, and those that will volunteer to go out and try to convert hellions and face naked men and barkin dogs are only tryin to help,,!  What I have against any such as them,,is that most of them will try to tell me that my religion is WRONG and theirs is Right. I've had em tell me that " The ONLY'IST way to heaven is thru their church" and that right there is wrong,!!  I'm wantin to go to Heaven too,,,I just ain't wantin to go now,,,!!!Wink
There is good in every religion,,it's the interpatration of some of their scriptures by some of their faithful that gets out of hand.

Thanks Joe, I believe it's what's in your heart that Jehovah looks at. You can't hide it from him. I'm sure most of us will be in his new kingdom when the time comes. I believe he looks at the effort to do what's right and not for perfection or none of us would make it.

I will step down now and let someone else have at it. Wink

Didn't have much of a religious upbringing and one of my 1st "true loves" was a Jehovah's Witness. I was 21 and she was 19 and still living at home. Her parents decided I was "evil and no good" without even meeting me and her church elders forbade her from seeing me anymore. I was willing to consider the church but their premptive judgment of me turned me off. I finally did confront her parents and the only reason they could give me for not liking me was they wanted their daughter to marry within the church. If they would have given me a chance I may have become a member of the church. 30 years later I have been with the same woman for 20+ years 3 teenagers, a newer house that we had built to our plans and other than my new truck, no debt. She has gone through 5 different (that I know of) long term boyfriends including 3 engagements and 2 marriages/2 divorces, but by joe, they were within the church.

When the JWs stop by (none recently as I think my address has been blacklisted) I ask them questions they have no answer for, like "why would I join a religion that judges people before they even get to meet them?".

I found the religion to be very interesting and worth consideration, but with the "attitude" of the local church I think I will pass. Again no offense to any particular members of this forum, just speaking from experience.

A friend of mine was visited by a whole herd of JW's.  They talked for a few minutes and he kept noticing a woman about his age kind of standing in the back of the pack.  He realized that she was someone he had once known in a "Biblical Way".  He didn't say anything to her but her face started getting red.  He told the group he needed to finish watching a porn movie and closed the door. She must have changed her ways, or not!

This is my story,,and it the troot,,,,,,,,
When I first started workin at the refinery,,you get hired for shiftwork and after you build seniority, you can bid to a day job when they come open.
Anyway I get assigned to a unit, figurin I'm gonna put in 5+ years before bidding out so figure I'm gonna make the most of this,,,,,
The wife and I were both practising Catholics and this group of 5 operators were all of different religions and each one kept their own bible in their lockers. On evening and midnight shifts, it was always pretty lively after dark as once the unit was secure, the bibles came out and the discussions commenced. I would just sit there and wonder which two were gonna finally start fighting,,,,cause they would start yelling at each other bout how THEIR religion was the only'ist way anybody was gonna get to heaven,,I mean, I really thought they was gonna go to fist city every night,,,,,WinkWink after bout 3 straight hours of this arguing,,with nobody making any rounds out in the unit,,,the phone rings ,,and it's the blender operator informing them that they are fixin to start running ,,,,"Cherry Red" which was "Hi Test" back in them days,,,,They would all put up their bibles and one by one leave the unit and drive their trks to the blender Unit and fill up  their 12 Jerry cans with the Hi Test Gasoline,,,,,,It kinda bothered them that I did not have any cans to fill,,,but that never stopped them,,,,,LOL. After they all filled up, then the discussions would start right up , them arguing which religion was best,,,,,,,LOL
 Guess it takes all kinds,,,,,

Yep the old adage, "Never discuss politics or religion at the dinner table with guests" has a lot of sense to it. I usually don't start religious conversations but will participate if asked. I am not of the school that only the JW's will be in Gods new kingdom when it comes. The good at heart and MEEK shall inherit the earth. Meek is not necessarily weak and pansy either.

I worked shiftwork, had a HUGE sign on the front door, DO NOT RING BELL OR KNOCK, SHIFTWORKER.

More than once some little group of JWs or Chritian Fellowship did not pay attention, so when or AS I opened the front door in my Skivies I just pointed at the SIGN, turned and closed the door. After the fourth go round I dare say word got out, nobody rang the bell except the local PD, they I could see thru the peephole and wore a Robe, they DID Apologize the others not so much so.

You've done a good job of not raising anyone's blood pressure.

I've known several good people that happened to be JW.  Guess now I can count you, though I don't technically know you.

Gotta admit, don't know a lot about the religion itself.  More hearsay and war stories really.  My Mom had a really bad experience or memory relating to it when she was a little girl.  A neighbor, I believe the man was JW and the woman was not.  Married, a couple of young kids, Christmas time.  And not their first one together, so for whatever reason, Christmas Eve, the guy snapped.  Freaked out, yelling, calling his wife the devil, tore the tree down and threw it and all the presents outside, kids crying.  Yeesh....

Thad, you just had to have a JW thread didn't ye... and today a car load showed up... but they musta been afraid, only one ventured out. LOL... Actually I had a friend that was a JW and we had talked for hours over the years and he would have his Bible and I would pull out the KJ and Amp. and compare them and the one thing he was dead set against was the gifts mentioned in the Bible... as desciples, they were given the gifts...but my friend said that was for only those... but I told him that they were as available today as it was 2000 years ago. He just couldn't accept that idea. Oh well.

A good friend I use to work with and a Babtist - well one day I asked him if he had any call on him and how did he dismiss them politely .
He said he doesn't in fact he invites them in - it seems on their day of call they prep themselves on some versed and then go out and witness those passages .
So he has them set down and they start in - he says just a moment and gets his good book to follow along - then points to another passage that contradicts their reading - after a few minutes he has them so confused by his knowledge they try to excuse themselves .
So he just asks if they want to come back later and study the good book further as he has all day open to share the WORD .
Never has had any call after the 2nd time he had a bible study class invite to any more. Said he must be a marked man now and no hope of getting enlightened to change his beliefs
In the 20 years I worked with him I discussed many things with him, asked questions and got answers but never did he try to push or preach one way or another but just gave his view and his reference to where he found his answers to questions .
