What does one do with this hitch?
It's a 63 model, diesel and it is supposed to run. I understand that these were hard starters. Anyone know of a gear reduction starter that will work.  |

Should not need a gear reduction starter.
Does need a good battery and the manifold heater working.
If no heater just a little bit of ether and they will start as long the pump is good.
The hitch was used for the cane equipment,
They could use the row builder that was used on the WC or WD/UC cane tractors.

Probably be the weekend before I get to it. Gonna get a good battery, make new cables, pull the starter apart to see how it looks, clean the tank, new filter, change oil, etc.

Harold, Tompson was located in Thibodaux Louisiana, I'm a 30 minute drive from there. I don't have any knowledge of them using any other tractor. At one time AC was king in cane country down here.

Got some things taken off without breaking a bolt!!! Gave it a good bath too. I need to rebuild the battery box and rewire it next. Posted an ad in the classifieds for things I need so far if anyone's parting a D-17.

Did those come with 2 -6 volt battery's hooked up tout out 12 volts? My series 4 diesel has 2 -12 volts hooked up to put out 12 volts. You need 6 volt size cables.

Tom it was converted to 12 volt at some time. I have taken every wire off of it. I will rewire it and run a one wire alternator with one big commercial battery. I rebuilt the battery box yesterday and pulled a good battery off of one of my other tractors. If it doesnt rain I may get to change the oil and spin it over today!

Got it fired up this morning, I built a new battery box and made new cables and got a new solenoid. Took the end of the starter off and the brushes look new. Using a temporary tank and switch. Turned it a few time till I got fuel at three injectors, gave it a tiny shot of starting fluid and off she went. Only ran it a minute because I have no water in it. I found a used preheater and thermostat housing this morning and their headed my way so next week I may be able to drive it around.

I had pulled the tank to clean it so I rigged up this temporary tank. Don't forget about the return line to the tank. Ask me how I know:)
