Gleaner Cab Fan Replacement

I remember a while back there was a thread (or 2) talking about upgrading the cab fan in a 7000 series tractor to an improved aftermarket fan that had much more air volume, but for the life of me, I can't find the thread. 
My questions are...what is the brand/model of the fan, and will it work in a Gleaner L/M/F/ Series 2 cab overhead console?

I personally don't think that the 7000 series lacks air volume. The 8000 series does lack in my opinion. As for the combines, usually the evaporator core and heater core get plugged and restrict the flow of air. I don't know of any interchange between the tractors and combines.

The problem is the motor burned up (I guess...power to the motor, no action though), and I figured if there was an upgrade available, it might be worth it. But the stock system isn't bad.

Did you put it in a tractor or combine?

Is this something that can be blown out in the cab without removing said cores,or is a major dismantling of the "overhead" required? Thanks

I can't recall the exact sequence, but on series 2 machines,swing down the face panel and then take down the blower motor assembly. The drip pan needs to come down and then a few screws out will allow the heater core and air conditioner core to swing down to clean them pretty well. No need to disconnect lines or hoses. Be careful with everything and it can make a big difference. Blow out the fins on the fan too, while you're there.

Thanks Lynn, sounds pretty simple Smile . I've been in the overhead pertaining to the TT and tach clusters (F2) but never paid attention to the climate control systems .

The fan on the Gleaner series 2 cab is grounded to the upper console by two sheet metal screws(1 on left, 1 on right). It’s electric motor has one hot wire that has an in-line disconnect about 3-4” from motor.
Part of the fan’s problem stems from poor grounding. Mice love it’s confines for nesting over winter. So the mice’s urine corrodes the grounds(area near two screws). Same thing can occur at fan switch, where mice go to chew wiring. While they chew, they urine on switch. That corrodes contacts inside. So over time fan switch begins to loose some of its speed settings (slow, med, fast). This corrosion & bare chewed wires begin contributing to higher amperage draws during use.
Conclusion - many times air fan motor is fine. Culprits are poor fan grounds, poor fan switch contacts, poor wire insulation(chewed up), & 40 yr old components that demand higher amperage to operate.
So try to replace/clean (ground contacts/switch/wires). Very important: REDUCE the MICE!

AP air offers that same fan for the R series. The best thing you can do is drop the evaporator and the heater coil down and CLEAN them. Make sure the box seals and the filter door seals. After that what I did was run a dedicated hot wire back to the battery and wired that to a relay. Found the wire from the switch that controls high and use the switch to turn the relay on.l and wired the high side of the motor to the relay. Made a lot of difference in fan speed. That switch in the console has to carry the amps for the fan motor and the compressor clutch. Doing this gives full amps to the fan motor.
