I just found a nice AC 720 chopper with a hay pickup. Paint looks great. There may be a corn head. What is it worth? Be nice to have somewhat of an idea before I stop in and talk to the owner. It was just pulled out of the shed. I have been driving past the farm for 12 years and this is the first I ever seen and equipment at all. I am located in sw WI. I am not sure how interested in it I am as I have a nice 780. Might try to buy it to trade or sell. Thanks Tom

A few years ago I bought TWO excellent 782 forage harvesters from a local farmer who had just quit using the one with the corn head. His uncle bought them new and had the reputation of being a meticulous A-C guy. The other did not have a head. Both still had the hydraulic lift cylinder with one being an original with the A-C decal. He was going to scrap them. $250 for the pair.

Bought a 782 that was sold new as a ford, with three row corn head and a windrow head field ready for 7 cents a pound.

Tom,
I purchased a 780 Harvester from the local dealer several years ago. It was in his "bone yard" out behind the Dealership and came with a One Row Corn Head, and a Direct Cut Hay Header. The package was all in excellent working order. I paid scrap metal value at the time. |

My pa has a 720 sitting the pasture for the last 30 plus years with a 2 row corn head. He bought it for the knife wobble box to use on the 390 haybine so we never used the chopper. It was really a shame because it was in great shape when he bought it.

The 720 is what I call a stand alone machine. It was the last model built by AC and was a new design for them. Not many were built as they discontinued the hay and forage line shortly after the 720 went into production.
The 780s and 782s are a lot more common and are very similar designs. As far as value, that's a good question. Last one I know of selling at a collectors sale brought in the $1200-1500 range. This was a very low hour machine and the collectors market was very strong. I would think its value would be less than that now, but that's just my opinion. Jim
