I have been working on replacing a seal on my right final drive. So I put on the new seal and seal protector, pressed the bearing completely on and inserted the outer spacer. put shaft through the bull gear and added the smaller spacer then the snap ring. put the inside bearing on and used the bolt to pull the shaft through and used spacers to drive in the seal and seal protector, then went in fine and are flush with the casing. the problem is I have not been able to get the inner snap ring in place. so my question is how and devil do I get it in place. sure would hate to half to take the case off to fix it as the book says it can be done while the case is in place. need some good advise fellows. thanks norm

hello randall. its the inside snap ring. it holds the collar against the bull gear inside to keep it lined up. just very little room to get to it as you have to reach up between the bull gear nd case. I have ordered another snap ring pliers to see if that will work. one I have I can get into the snap ring but it keeps wanting to twist the snap ring. just thought some one on here had maybe done this before. thanks norm

Failed memory of the operation prevents me from giving advice - I must have done that job several times as I replaced axles on the HD4 quite a few times seems with snap ring on axle it was just slid into place as the assembly progressed - only needed snap ring pliers to remove the full mess
Life lesson: If you’re being chased by a lion, you’re on a horse, to the left of you is a giraffe and on the right is a unicorn, what do you do? You stop drinking and get off the carousel.
