Car wouldn't start. Towed to dealer. They say a critter chewed
through the wires. I found some wires on ground where I parked it.
Probably a rat. $408 bill. It's always something.

One of my Farmers Market neighbors has a Mitsubitshy (or however it's spelled), box truck. Tried to start it this spring, nothing, got to looking, mouse and rat crap everywhere in the cab. Had it hauled to the dealer, nobody would even work on it. Ended up buying another truck.

I have seen the rats do it to a Blue tractor twice. They had several months in winter rather than overnight. The second time even ate the AC hoses. It cost a lot more than $400 to fix.

Makes buying a bag of Purina Rat Chow every once in awhile a pretty good investment. + you can use it to teach em to beg.

Seems Red Squirrles are know for that also - something about the insulation is a great appitiser for vermine now

Found a rat or mouse nest, in the '94 duckoder, last week, under the air cleaner, top of right valve cover. Got it out afore it was all pissy, gonna keep my eye on it...
Saw a segment on motorweek, Pat Goss had some wire harness parts, that was treated with cayenne pepper...

Lotsa deere combines were burning up back a while ago. seems it was the insulation on the wires was soy based.

Old boy called me many years ago with the left front flat on his 4400 JD combine. He wanted to combine oats. I thought I could air up the tire and then slip the jack under the frame/jack it up and fix his tire. Nope-no go. Air just shot out of the very bottom of the tire. Darn rat had chewed clear thru the bottom of the tire. Cost the old boy a new tire. His problem was easy to fix-- good luck with hour's.

When I read the topic line, "rat ate my car" I had to see how big a rat it was to eat his car... or how small his car was.
Following isn't about rat chewing but corrosion eating that happened to me yesterday. I had jumped in the truck, turned the key and the engine grunted over a turn and then there was no more power. Looked at the battery cable clamp and I knew it wasn't in the best of shape because part of it was broke off and had a vise grip holding it since in the winter... Well, it was still holding, Looked harder and seen the cable coming out of the clamp had corrosion on it. So since the clamp was no good, called local parts store and they had generic cables but not for the 92 ford pickup.
So I found a 2 gauge copper crimp clamp and figured the two cables would fit it. Then took a bolt cutter and cut the lead off the cables and found how bad the main starter cable really was, maybe only a quarter of it had been conducting. Cleaned up the wires and put solder compound on and shoved the cables into the clamp. Then used a little torch set and heated the clamp till the solder flowed in and filled the cavity and the solder past flowed out... and some solder too. Put the battery back in and tightened down the clamps and WOW!! the engine spun over faster than I ever remember. I wonder how long that cable has been a problem... Sure glad it decided to quit here at home instead of on the road someplace. Thankful for that.

In my case the owner picks the poison, we keep it out year round. May be that it loses some killing power over summer. And we cannot get stuff that works to good,Snowflakes love all them fussy little critters.
