Hi, I am new here and would like to ask if someone could give me an idea of when my dozer was built. The serial number on the back right side reads...HD11 B 10257. I was told it was a 1964 but would like to confirm that for ordering parts. It has the AC 10000 engine, and hydraulic assist steering. This one is a little different. It has a full cab with no a/c or heat. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

if the 0 in the 10257, is a 6, then, its a 1971. If it really is a 0, then it's a 1964, and not a B series...

will be 64. AC used letter serial numbers after about 1969/70 . If it was a HD11 series B powershift it would be stamped 25L 16257. My HD11ep is 46Y 14812. And HD6ep is 88Y24869. Other late HD6s were 40M and 70C.

The B in the model name means its full width track gauge and built for industrial rather than agricultral use. Not to be confused with the series B tractors.

B in the serial number after 10, 000 also denotes dry steering clutches, and 7 roller track frame, with pre- 10,000 style track chains I think... and no turbo

Thanks for the replys.. This unit was purchased in concord Nc, and from the grandson of the owner, who had passed away. I was told it had been on the property for over 30 years. There are a few things that time has taken its toll on, that need repair, but she runs strong. It is a non turbo six speed. Is it fairly easy to find outer seal kits for the final drives?

The guy you purchased it from has or had a TD14. He lives in Burlington, NC. I'd really like to hear your story about the sales transaction, was it only a stuck starter like the ad said? Really curious. He listed the HD about 6 months ago for $1500. I tried to buy it. The guy never answered the ad.

Your pretty close to the story. We had to replace the starter and battery cables before I could hear it run. I bought it with the hope that I was not buying a "pig-in-a-poke". We installed the new parts and it started up after about 5sec's on the starter. Hydraulics worked, all gears good, steering needs some work, and there are some leaks, as well as needing general maintenance. Overall the UC is about 75-80%. I am real happy with it so far, it is a big step up from my old T-340. P

Good to hear that. It's an old machine, certainly gonna need some TLC. But sounds like you did o.k. I think he was asking $2800.00, this time, which isn't a bad starting place for a running machine.. There is a thread about that CL ad on this forum.

I would like to read that thread about it. How would I find it? A local logging co. hauled it for me, with no trouble other than a ruptured hydraulic hose, but I am sure it was an original hose. The oil pressure runs perfect, and no major leaks. I have pulled the old non functional generator off and installed a GM style 24vdc, one wire alt, to recharge the battery's. Plans may be in order to install a A/C system to cool the cab. The brake bands work flawless. I will need to re-solder a new neck in the radiator. The one that is on the top tank is bend pretty bad, but it had green antifreeze in it. A lot of what I am finding is issues that have been let go for a long time.

The folks in that topic sure expressed how I felt during the purchase of this dozer. I was really scared (after I bought it) that the engine would rattle like a worse than my knees when it was first started. They were correct, the seller was hard to contact, but He was truthful about the sale so far. Sometimes you have to take a chance, and hope it works out.

Did you have it shipped the same day you made the deal?
Did have to come back later to work on it to get it loaded?
Whereabouts in western NC are you located? Wife and I vacation in Spruce Pine every summer.

I bought it the first day we looked at it and, then bought the starter, and battery cables. I had to wait until they arrived, then install them, and pray that it would start, run, and move, so it could be at least loaded, and unloaded. Then I got it hauled home, the following Saturday. Over all the process took two weeks. During the loading, a 3/4" hydraulic line ruptured and dropped the blade. Thanks to a fantastic driver, He was able to use a chain, and binder to get the blade up enough to load it. We brought it off the trailer the same way.
I live two hours west of Concord.

I don't know but, there is a resource section on this website. But, you've probably already found that.
