I'm looking at buying a 8050 powershift and wanted to know what you guys though about it.
It's got 5000 hours on it, runs and pulls fine but has couple of problems, clutch is touchy(barely release and it moves and sometimes to stop it have to put in neutral). Engine oil pressure light comes on when started but he did have it tested, holds 50 psi. Engine uses about quart of oil every 100 hours, has a little blow. Engine has never been rebuilt. He is wanting $7000 for it, do yall think I should pass this up? (I got pictures if anybody want to see it)

There's an 8050 (I believe - it's a bit too far off a busy highway) for sale not too far from me. It had to have been repainted as it looks as good as new. I have no idea what they want for it as the sign is hard to read while driving.

Never had an 8050, but our 8070's would not use a drop of oil till 80 hours, then for the next 20, you would have to add 1 - 2 quarts per week. Change the oil, and good for 80 hours again. Then we just started changing oil at 80 hours.

The price is not too bad. Is it 2 wheel drive? You will probably have to spend some money on an overhaul sooner or later. Was the oil pressure checked when the motor was hot? Any abnormal sounds from the engine or elsewhere? Maybe he would take a little less because of possible repairs needed.

Well my main concern is the transmission, having to put in it neutral to stop sometimes. I'm thinking maybe a linkage needs to tighten up or filter stopped up somewhere.
Does anybody know how much it would cost to spilt the tractor and work on the transmission? Haven't looked at the tractor yet only talked over the phone with the owner. I own a 7010 and 7030 but never looked at an 8000 series before.

Splitting and replacing a powershift I'd not cheap. Our old 8070 cost us 10,000 to fix....we never had any luck with the power shift always liked the power director better

That's a reasonable price for here, even if converted to Canadian $.
Probably the clutch cable is out of adjustment, maybe the powershift cables too? A little oil use is still acceptable. Some drip a fair amount - just that it happens out in the field and you don't notice how much. Most tractors with 5000 plus hours do on my farm and I'm not doing engine overhauls. A quart or two of oil is way cheaper as long as the motor still runs smooth. And try changing the oil pressure sender. They commonly fail. Then the oil pressure light will go out and work as per normal.. Edited by Ron(AB) - 27 Aug 2017 at 11:14pm |

If it was close to me it would already be in my barn. I have 3 8000 series with power shift and we love them. Ive never had to work on one but it sounds like a cable out of adjustment to me. Usually when they go bad they stop moving. Good luck

With 5000 hrs, the first thing I would do is change engine bearings.
Clutch, does it do it in every gear or just part? Does it grind gears when you put range transmission in lo or hi? Does it pull down just setting when you shift through the six forward gears? MACK |

Tex I believe I'd use a different brand of oil filter. It's worked for me several times.

From viewing photos, the 8050 looks to have a red loader frame bolted to the side frames of engine?? If that's correct, then some of it's clutch & transmission issues you mention, could coin with years of loader use. That being said, would I take a chance on buying or negoiating towards a $7000 AC 8050? You betcha!
It's side shield looks good & its got a set of duals. How about rear inside weights? Rear tire fluid? Front weights? Power shift rear rims? Edited by AC7060IL - 29 Aug 2017 at 8:02pm |

In my part of the country an 8050 2wd with a weak clutch, trashed cab, and that many hours wouldn't bring $4K at auction.
