I need help figuring out where to get twine for my root baler that my grand father had, had in the shed for 20 years until about. A year ago a friend and I were working on it the other day a found an original ball of twine in the tube. And I have one 1 other original ball but I would rather not use them but I don't know where to get twine for my allis roto baler if you have any ideas let me know

Google "binder twine". It came right up on Ebay when I did it. I saw several other hits too.
$20 for 2500 feet with free shipping seems to be the going price. Edited by DougS - 17 Jul 2017 at 1:09pm |

Don't know if you have a Mill's Fleet Farm store in your area or not, but I get mine there. Darrel

Binder twine generally finds it on google. Sometimes you can go to ace hardware, and they have a large roll, that is very similar, to the original...

Mills is in Ankeny and Mason City. I've been in the one in Mason City, but wasn't looking for twine. Are you referring to the Wellington? The $9.99 a ball stuff? They call it "gardening" twine and the 8 pound rating seems a little light to me. If this is what you're using and it works, the price isn't bad. Edited by DougS - 17 Jul 2017 at 6:43pm |

I don't know if all True Value hardware stores have it, but Miller's True Value does carry it in Waverly, IA. The first time I found it, they had 2 rolls on the shelf and I bought them both, then the next trip they had one roll and I bought that too.

No, DougS, that's not the stuff. The stuff I got is Koch Industries brand. It does not say binder twine on the package, but the size of the ball is perfect for the roto baler twine housing. I remember thinking that it wasn't very economical; kind of spendy. Only 2,250 feet per roll. Does seem to work good though, and I don't make a lot of roto bales each year, so for the convenience of just being able to pick some up once in a while when I'm in Fargo, I'll pay the price.
On a little side note, I made a few rotos the other night in some oats/field pea hay, and had some perfect windrows. Them was the prettiest roto bales I ever made. Old baler was a spitting em out to beat heck. If I had time, and means to do it, I'd make thousands of them little buggers every year. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Darrel |

I checked the Mills web page here. They don't show Koch twine listed. Not that I've seen many farm stores with accurate pages. I mean, I won't even bother looking at a Bomgaars web page anymore.
