Anyone else had problems with bio-diesel causing rust in the fuel tank? Any solution other than to avoid bio-diesel at all costs? That's the advice I get from other tractor owners locally.

My 220 and F2 (the worst) had bio one winter.....NEVER AGAIN!.That crap is only ok if using equipment daily. Will gladly pay the extra for straight diesel.

We used it in our generators one year. Rust didn't seem to be a problem. Algae was a huge ptoblem, though.

It caused rust in my 220 and algae in my Vista G1000. Still fighting the rust after 5 years without using bio.

Not one problem in my D17D, however, not all bio diesel is the same. When it's made from waste cooking oil and animal fat it's going to be a problem gelling in cold weather. There is also more entrained moisture in it. The bio I'm using is soy based only. Soy based doesn't have the gelling problems or the moisture fat based does.

Brian that must be what I get from my supplier. I have never had a problem of any kind, of course I insist on Premium #2 diesel. Cant imagine how diesel fuel/oil would cause rust. I've been a lot of labs during fuel testing but not in one testing bio diesel. The only thing I can think is fuel being delivered with water in it or condensation on the inside of the fuel tank on a hot humid summer day. You gotta have those Pre Vent caps on those fuel tanks to cut down on that problem, also best if they are painted white and labeled diesel fuel. Wonder how many of these guys have had their supplier "stick" their tanks using water paste?

Back around 12 or 13 we had rampant gelling issues on new 6.7 Fords. I made some calls and found Key and Heartland co ops only blended soy based bio. When I instructed my customers to stop using convenience store diesel and go to the co op for fuel, the gelling problems ended.

I've used Bio and like it but does come with some problems. winter time gelling can happen and especially tractors seem to have trouble with rust forming on the inside of fuel tanks. That being said; i still use it at the proper time!

Bio diesel attracts water. algae lives in the water, and acidifies it, causing rust.
Back away from bio diesel, slowly, and make the sign of the cross...
