does anyone raise watermelons to sell on here, a few ppl do it around here and they sell alot of them. i wanna think they are $5 for a pretty good size one.. my cusin does it but doesnt try to manage it any at all basicly just plants them and doesnt try to keep them clean or nothing. he says a acer can make 2,000-2,500 dollars..

so does anyone on here fool with growing them and maybe know how many plants can be grown on a 2 acer plot or maybe just 1 acer

i might even look into strawberrys or something

i have number 1 ground by  the way id put it up against anyone iv made 300 bushel corn here  before

im just looking into something to make some extra money on the side if i can cause this cheap corn and high input doesnt seem to be working if you know what i mean.

Don't know about watermelons, but on a good year, we can do about the same with pumpkins. Spend about$30 on seeds. Plant in hills of 2-4 seeds per hill. Hills are 15' apart in the rows. Rows are 15-20' apart. I cultivate with a 9' pull type field cultivator. By mid to late June can't get through with cultivator and just let them grow. Pick them around 1st week of October. Standard carving pumpkins we charge $5, large (30-50#) $10, giants (70-100#) $15. Blues and whites $5 or $7 (depends on my mood that year). Been messing with my own cross last couple years. Plant whites and blues next to each other and get a slate colored white pumpkin.
Looking at the past to see the future.

We plant 5-6 seeds to the group and thin later to 3 plants, and give the groups  6 feet   apart in the rows and rows 8 feet apart, ( watermelons gotta have a bunch of room.)
could also plant just 4 seeds and not thin later.
We have decent luck here, but never tried to sell them!---we donated ours to the mission. thanks; ac fleet

We didn't grow a lot of watermelons, season to short most years. We did well with pumpkins until the squashbugs took over. Main thing is to see if there is a market for what you grow. We had a great location for a roadside stand, so the only advertising we used was CL and a FB page. If everything was a easy as it looks everyone would be doing it
