I finally got my timing issue figured out on the little crawler,  and it runs great.  Now what I am running into is that  It will not drive on the left side.  I took the cap off and can see the drum turning under the brake band.  As a rough idea,  what would my problem be?
 
Clutches or something in the drive?

The teeth on the fiber clutches are probably gone.

That is what i was hoping....I am going to have to cut a link out of the chains anyways. So thats when i will tear into the housing.
 
I may have to find some new rollers too

Don't take this the wrong way but you must be crazy if your looking forward to removing the tracks from your crawler. I have one with a dozer blade on it that would sure come in handy around here but it needs steering clutches, it's been sitting out back for 2 years because of that. A couple times a year I fire it up and drive forward and backward with it just to get the parts moving but it won't turn.

merjamika    If your track adjustment is to the limit and you tracks sag too much , taking a link out is not the answer. It could shell out the drive sprockets. You are basically trying to change the pitch of the tracks because of wear in the pins and bushings, and you can't change the pitch of the sprockets. Charlie

Finding parts in our area could very well be a challenge,  thats the whole reason for taking a link out,  I just want the machine to be able to move without dumping the track all the time.  As for pulling the machine apart, I'm kinda used to working on things like that.  Plus, I kind of like a challenge

Before you take track off try adjusting steering clutch from top (may be out of adjustment) may be a easy fix  but if that dont work then its a tracks off job, have done six m.s so its not to bad off a job todo if you need any advice on how to do leave me a message and will try to help  should be able to strip out and repair replace in a day. h t h

I found a set of chains that appear that they might work.  They are off of a D2 Cat.  I want to take a couple of pads off first to make sure they will work. 

Are the clutch discs fairly easy to get?  The other side of the machine is steering good, but am wondering if I should do both.

If the bushings are still good you might look at having them turned and pins turned. The take out a link is asking for problems, at the most it is to get the machine to the shop repair. What will happen is the distance between the roller increases and they will end up hitting the sprocket in wrong place. I believe your sprockets have every other tooth design with a web between teeth. If you end up with a bushing landing in this space EXTREME pressure will be put on full track and final drives , LISTEN FOR THE LOUD POP OF SOMETHING BREAKING !

That's where I got my clutches, I think the fibers were $21 or $23 each.

My track chains are wore into the pins so I dont think i have much other choice than replacement
