Ok. I was out plowing with my 1940 B. Only 22 inches of snow and -4 degrees. I got stuck and almost got out. Anyway, The machine's rear wheels quit turning while in gear. The PTO still operates for the loader bucket. Any ideas of what to look at when I head back out into the tundra?

3 things come to mind. None of them easy. Transmission not going in to gear, ring gear and pinion, or final drive gear or shaft.

If the brakes work try stepping on one at a time if it's in a final drive you should be abel to limp to the shop by holding the broken side brake

I hate to say it but it looks like my favorite is not too good.

Carefully tow it back to the shop. Remove the PTO housing and pickup your spider gear cross pin out of the bottom. Hope nothing else is broken. Good luck

If you were going from forward to reverse repeatedly the problem most likely will be just below your shifter stick. I would guess it would be in the side plate assembly but could just be a worn fork that let the slide gear set free from the gear that would move the tractor. Pictures of the side plate assembly with forks and picture of the grooves the slide forks have to be in. In the picture the gears are in the neutral position which is my guess to your problem. I vote for Dicks plan. I have seen the shift lever pop out and get stuck in 2 gears or neutral.. Does the shift lever "FEEL" like it goes into all 4 gears ? .... Hard to believe you broke gear teeth in the finals.
