We have a 2008 5525.
It's a nice tractor with 109 hours (Looks almost new, and the bar codes are still on the tire tread. I'm hoping one day in about 35 years it will bring some good money, since we never use it), except the 3pt lift is screwy. There's a speed adjust knob that does nothing. It raises super slow, sometimes takes 10 seconds to raise. Sometimes it does nothing and you have to move the 3pt knob up and down a few times. Then it still goes super slow. And...when you lower it...sometimes you can move the knob all the way down, and nothing happens. Same as before, it you move it back and forth, it will go down, but when it does, it drops like it lost all hydraulic pressure! I conducted all these tests with a roto-tiller on the back too, so it wasn't empty load.

Sounds like something is plugging up that speed control valve. If this was an older tractor I would suspect someone spliced a line and got a metal filing stuck in it. I would take the valve apart and see if you find anything in it. Or sell the tractor to someone who doesn't use the 3 point....

Did you flip that little cover up and adjust the knobs? I didn't even know they were under their until I studied the manual as there are two different styles. On this one you have to hit the UP toggle to activate the 3pt after startup, then hit the Down part of the toggle. After that the slide control works fine. Not sure if that is the way it is supposed to work, but it works that way on this one. All this electrical crap could be a nightmare! Good news is you have one of the last tractors before the emissions crap was mandatory..... |

Yep, those are the knobs I was talking about. One is supposed to control the speed I think. I tried adjusting both of them every which way, and nothing much happens. Where is the up/down toggle switch you speak of?

It is on the thumb side of the slide control...up has a dimple in it, down doesn't. It is the one touch up, one touch down switch....kinda handy actually....

So one touch raises all the way up, and one touch lowers it? I know what switch you're talking about, but I never tried it.

Yup! Just make sure your down speed isn't dialed all the way up or your tiller will make a dimple in the ground

Creston-the 3pt doesn't work, off to the tree line for that one. Maybe it can pull the pumpkin wagon at the fall harvest festival. JD used to sell farmers brand new antique tractors, now they sell brand new lawn ornament tractors. If the 3pt is screwy, stand clear as you know, dangerous. Ask the JD dealer what them buttons are for. The manual is online for free. |

I don't know what's wrong with it. It used to work fine, then it doesn't. It's been barn kept, and is like-new. Never needed worked on, except for regular maintenance.

So it has 109 hours has a broken 3 point hitch and has had needed regular mantance to reach that record number of hours... can't see why anyone wouldn't want a Deere.... Actually the thing that hit me was barn kept. Have you had any trouble with mice? Critters love to chew on wires and modern tractors have tons of wires for them. Wondering if maybe sitting for so long in a barn something moved in and made your deere home. Edited by Dan73 - 22 Sep 2016 at 3:11am |

Well I say regular maintenance, it's had an oil change and a battery or two. Nope, no mice! I've already checked wires and everything, and nothing looks like it has been touched.
