    Posted: 23 Jun 2016 at 8:29pm
I have a question regarding the proper belt installation on a 66 and 72 allcrop for the straw spreader. The one located up in the straw hood. I must have a dozen manuals of every type for these combines and this topic is not mentioned as they dont show this option. I was told by someone as one publication mentions the belt must be crossed to run it correctly. We tried crossing the belt and it was rubbing against itself in such a way that its life would be short at best!! I cant see the great engineers of these combines would have designed to be that way. Does anyone have knowledge of the correct setup?? Thanks in advance for any help, Ryan

I hauled a 72 home for the neighbor today and that belt was crossed and rubbed itself like you said. I'll try to get a pic and post it tomorrow.

Hey Ryan, they took the belts off but I took a pic of his diagrams that the previous owner made. Hope it helps some.

It looks like the idler assembly has two pulleys on the spreader on your neighbors 72. Mine only has one. Could you possible post a picture or two of that idler? I hate to be bothering you!! Ryan

Also would like to see more pictures of the 72 Mike posted. Judging by the nice paint in his photos it must be a good one. Ryan

I have to go back tomorrow anyway so I'll get another pic, it's in the back of his shed but I'll get some pics when he's running his oats in a couple weeks. Should look neat behind a team of horses.

I got back over this morning and took a couple picks. It looks like he just added another pulley above the original one.

Thank you for the pictures Mike!! I see the previous owner did add a second idler pulley. Maybe he had the key to the belt not rubbing on itself.  Ryan

It looks good and runs smooth, but it's stuffed in back of the barn so when he gets it back out I can get some pictures.
