the 180 1st pic

the 170 2nd 2 pics

well I ever only plan on during maybe 2 acres or pumpkins a year and some small time square bales and running the new idea cutditioner probably 10 acres of junk hay till i can afford better. but mainly just hobby pumpkin patch. O running a manure spreader and maybe a lime spreader also.

I plan on getting a tiller thinking 6-8 tiller I would need to change over one of my plows to 3pt dont know if that can be done and make my ac disk draw bar or get my d17 engine running better but I want to buy a tractor and dont know really what I should do.

So i am putting up pics for all you to help me out. I really wanted a diesel but both tractors have caught my eye

I'd take the 170, easier on fuel and the power director is mechanical instead of hydraulic which gives you much better control when using the hand clutch. It also sits lower and is a bit shorter making it  a more nimble machine.

170 would be my choice for exactly the same reasons, plus the sound of those AC 4 cylinders is one of my favorite tunes.

Landhandler means nothing - just a decal, if they are gas burners, go with the ONE SEVENTY, much easier on gas

If you are going to look at it, pick the 180, but if you are going to use it buy the 170... mechanical power director has a much higher utility value and the 170 will use a lot less fuel. The  170/175s are a well balanced unit and work well as a chore tractor and for stuff you want to do.

If you are Collecting then buy the 180 Gas, if you want a great all around tractor then go with the 170, The 170 is much more handier for small jobs.
Unless your are the lead horse the scenery never changes!!

all things considered and mecanically the same condition , i to would opt for the 170,
decent little mid size tractor dual hydraulics hook ups, easy to drive nimble tractor, 3 point tools are much easier to find than the ac coupler implements

the 180 is a big horse in a two acre patch
i like old tractors of all colors

sorry I didnt post during the day. I was busy mowing yards and went to help my gf out with horses.
I like them both.  I do agree the 180 is alot of hp for what I want to do. The 170 would be perfect.
Kinda like the idea of collecting. I told my self today it would be just a toy the 180 cant be that hard on gas...

Yes, but with 10 or so horsepower difference the 180 won't do much bigger jobs. LOL

They are both good looking tractors but what is the price difference? That would be a factor for me too, although I'd lean towards the 170 unless the 180 was cheaper. If the 180 was a diesel I'd go that way but I've owned a 190XT gas and I can tell you that thing was REALLY hard on fuel. My D17 series IV could mow more than twice as much ground with the same mower and the same amount of fuel than the XT would.

Tires are shot?  There is alot of use left in those tires.  I would take them over those Censored long bar/short bar on the 180.

I think both tractors are very nice. The tires on the 170 will still last a long time and have a lot of life left in them. Also notice the original top link on the 170. In my opinion and from experience, the 180 is a lot bigger work horse than the 170 with the extra horsepower and weight working in it's favor. As for the tires on the 180,and I know this has been discussed several times over,I'll take them over the ones on the 170 any day. They pull better in my opinion, but they are rough riders when on the blacktop. However,i don't road mine,I haul them where they need to go,unless it's across the road or only a mile or two. Lastly, yes the 180 will be harder on gas than the 170...we're talking 6 cylinder verses 4 cylinder though. I guess it would depend on what job you were going to use it for. It would be really hard to pass one or the other up though,so I would have to go with "get 'em both"! LOL!  Rick

For what you are using it for,it would be a no-brainer for me. The 170 would be my choice. It will be much cheaper to operate and the power director is very easy to use. The only advantage the 180 would for you is that it does have fully indepenent hydraulic PTO. On the down side, the 180 will be a true gas guzzler and the power director on 180 and 185 models were the worst design of any AC tractor. Very difficult to creep or feather it while looking back at implement. The short shift lever and location of it just plain sucks.

Buy both if one breaks down you have one to keep you going until other is fixed. (my thought)

I agree that the 170 would be better on a smaller operation. I'm not sure about the Landhandler designation, I thought it was the Crop Hustler that had the higher speed gearing such as the 185.

Landhandlers were the tillage tractors 180 & up, Crop Hustlers were the smaller tractors.
