I just purchased a 917, about 1985 model, anyone know the proper oil for the transmission and how to check it ?

Some use hy-trans hydraulic oil and some use ATF. You can use either but I would drain it since you just got it and refill with your preference.

most of the small hydro units use either 10/30 or 20/50 engine oil .

thank you for your reply, I guess I will change it and the filter, do you know if the hid lift runs off the same fluid from the transmission or is there a separate pump
