My neighbor has a 175 that when you start it instantly the three point arms raise up even though the lever is down. I thought maybe it had air in the lines and needed bled. Could this be the problem and if so how would you go about beading it? Or am I way off on my diagnosis? Any reply's appreciated.

Junkman - most likely the traction booster spool valve has the finger linkage that activates it frozen up in the position where it is depressing the valve. See the pictures below. They are from my Series IV D17 but should be nearly identical to a 175. You need to push the finger back from the spool valve then free up the pivot for the finger. Mike

WOW, thanks for the pics to make the job easier. I will look at it and see if this indeed is the problem. I did not expect pics and such a good diagnosis. I'll let you know if this is the problem. After buying my first Allis a couple weeks ago, I read this forum everyday. Thanks to all that make this a great forum.

Referring to the second picture, the part that pushes against the valve is what is seized up - there is a bushing inside that is rusted up. Best thing to do is take it apart, clean it up, and put a healthy dose of anti-seize compund. Once back together, you will be good for many years to come.

Eldon - yes I do. I wondered myself how many times now I've used them to answer that question. Mike

Again thanks for the info. You were right a seized linkage. cleaned it up and works like new. Although it was not as grimy as the one in the picture. Mark

Mark - glad to hear it's fixed. I took those pics in 2006 when I had my D17 in the shop getting it's last stages of restoration and a new paint job. So those were the last few pics of it with the grime, lol. Mike
