It is now. The M60 was king back in my day though Big smile

Edit: The venerable M60 made a pretty good showing in the hands of the Marines during the second Gulf War against the Soviet armor.

I remember a recruiting poster circa mid-1970's that was extolling the finer 'selling points' of the M60, it mentioned, among other things, the air-cooled 12-cylinder diesel engine that delivered 3 gallons per mile fuel economy, the 105 mm high-velocity main gun, and lastly, "Parking! Who's going to argue for your space?" Tongue

As Seen at American Legion Post #82

120mm M103 Heavy Combat Tank

Although this is the end facing the highway, we are looking at the rear of the tank, not the front.

In US service 1957-1974.

Largest most powerful Tank ever built; designed to destroy enemy tanks at extreme distances, the M103 would out-slug any land-fighting machine ever built.

5-rounds/minute

65-tons Combat Loaded

Powered by a 750hp air-cooled twin-turbocharged V12 Continental Diesel Engine.

I have driven past these guns all my driving life and not until now knew that Campbellsville had on display the largest Howitzer and the biggest Combat Tank ever built.

On the North side of East US Hwy 68 at Mile #7.4(226)
Campbellsville - Taylor County - Kentucky

37°21'29.89" North Parallel - 85°19'22.11" West Meridian

Buckskin thanks for sharing all your great tank photos. Takes me back to that 1970s World War II movie classic comedy-adventure Kelly's Heroes. The iconic line spoken by the eccentric, beatnik American tank commander "Oddball" (played by Donald Sutherland). Whenever things go well or his crew fires their customized Sherman tank's main gun, Oddball playfully makes barking and howling sounds into his radio headset, yelling, "Woof, woof, woof!
