    Posted: 10 Apr 2022 at 5:56pm
Seems I have a 2015 Jeep Cherokee that I got back in 2015 after i had bought a 2014 but had a lot of missing features I had wanted - when I went to buy the 14 asked for a backup camera (well it ended up view screen was not in dash but in mirror) . Then with mirror changed out the dash compass didn't work and a couple other things - so bought the 15 .
Got a Cherokee Limited equipped with all the things I wanted including tow package for Class 3 hitch and 4,500 towing capacity .
So figured even though only 34,000 miles on the 15 kind of wondering how soon rust might start showing so looking at trading it in .... Well until I find 2022 units are $10,000 more than my 15 cost . Next tow packages from factory are only offered on Trail Hawk and only special order for heavy tow package (2,000lb is normal) and then if one wants any color but it seems Black or White they just aren't out there.
Next is a power lift gate on rear or 8.5" touch screen in dash - seems 2 items that do not come together - kind of and or - trade off on everything - unless one wants to spend $46,000 to get next unit up and other things one does not need like sun roof , leather seats , 10 speaker sound system , and the list grows .
Trade in seems to be another joke as was offered $13,000 from one dealer and $17,000 from another but running True Car and another from a place that just buys vehicles was given a quote of $20,000
Inflation has hit everything I guess and rather than just select  4 wheel drive now the All Wheel Drive / full time 4 wheel seems to be the push - but that has a neutral selection so one can tow it behind your RV - guess I need to buy a RV also to use that feature ! Oh and fuel mileage is less on units now sold as the fulltime 4 wheel drops mileage. So new units have 3 gallon larger fuel tank .

He was just making some observations, not looking for an answer.  There was no question mark in his post!

That's what I am starting to think, keep it and see how long it will last  . As it seems my mileage per year is around 5,000 a year and I have the 2000 GMC pickup with 94,000 miles on it also .
Then it seems my motorcycle collection offers just driving vehicles to get around on , and has grown into around 20 bikes now - but newest is the 2000 Moto Guzzi 1100cc , and 76 T140 Triumph both with under 25,000 miles
Only thing is the pickup has severe case of oxidation on frame and body - but it's my snow plow truck not a show truck it might last a few more years , just don't want to drive another vehicle in same condition a couple years from now .
Yep houses and vehicles somehow are getting where they cant be replaces within a working mans budget - let alone someone who is retired .
Just got home valuation for MN taxes and their idea is this placed increased in value $110,000 in one year - with no improvements or changes to place .

FreeGas has a beat up, rotted out, 17 year old LUMBER WAGON that gets 8 MPG... He could probably give you some POINTERS on how to MAINTAIN a truck to be in "good condition"...

The way I am looking at it is all these new vehicles have all the electronic stuff and just how long is it going to last before it needs repaired and then hope they can find the problem as some just act up and then are okay, and at 77 years old I thinking maybre these vehicle my wife and I have might be enough to last us

I agree THomas... once you hit 70 years old / retired / and maybe drive 5000 miles per year......... might be BEST to stick with what you have , if its in decent shape.

I had an interesting car deal this last fall where the dealers trade offer I thought was low but the vehicle he had I thought was fair compared to others with similar vehicles, long story short we sold the vehicle to Carmax for $7000 more than the dealer offered. Tax was a little different doing it that way but we were still way ahead. Just an option.

That is kind of what i was going off - one of the car buying sites said $20,000 for the present Cherokee .
Just thinking I should put the 1965 Olds Cutlass Supreme Convert - 442 - back on the road rather than setting in garage but at 12 MPG and premium fuel - but I can work on it myself ( only electronics is the alternator ) and radio

At some point in life its time to sell off some of the TOYS...if the KIDS dont want it... 12 years SETTING is about long enough.

Steve - Seems i bought to car new in 65 so a one owner thing - and over the years has been - One of these days projects which had been put on hold - had bodywork done and repainted in 76 and a few things since but need to replace the white top as has some age problems now as last replacement was in 73 -
Yep - things one collects in lifetime which are cherished - become burdens to others when one no longer can use them .
Problem is when I buy some things they become items I keep - be it my HD5G I bought in 1972 , my IH 460 Utility in 73 , or 75 Norton I bought in 76,  they all end up like the 65 Olds or the 68 Norton , trash or treasure ..then I can add the 66 White tandem dump truck that came in 75 and has stayed around

Coke, I too am a 'collector'   yes, I know the kids may not want my stuff and I could sell it to have some money, but there is also the satisfaction and enjoyment of having it, whether it is used or not.  Some have personal attachment, and some bring good memories.  Money isn't everything.  I'll take my enjoyment over the money.... for now.

I'm with Greg and Coke on this enjoy it till the day I die, then others can keep it or dispose of it as they choose. If they want the inheritance they can take the good with the bad, My wife and I said we are going to hide money in things so they have to go thru everything and not just throw it away.Smile

You coul NOT be any more wrong STEVIE !!! Th BEST vehicle I owned/ran was a 1996 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE w/factory trail rated suspension and 4x4 "all-the-time" and a 5.2 V8 that got 18-22 MPG depending on the driver, we acquired a '97 model of GC with a "quad-trac" 4x4 system and a 4.0 straight 6 and the difference between 1 model year was APPALLING, no more Jeep products for me

Went out of his way?  You sound so snide about that.  NO, he just wrote what was on his mind.  Of course, you have to possess a thinking mind to do such things, so I can imagine your perplexity.
