I have a 1954 WD45 I believe it is factory power steering.. I put power steering fluid in it but I was wondering what fluid every one uses on here?
Can you let me know what works best for you?

besides the thin motor oil, power steering fluid, hydraulic oil, or transmission fluid would all be fine.. If your using TRANS fluid, i would use the older ATF or Type F ... newer types are more addatives.. older types are more like thin hydraulic fluid.

Factory power steering was not offered until 1955 . Yours might be a Charlynn power steering unit, they were common additions to these tractors. I have heard they actually work better than the factory units though.

I use mostly fully synthetic 10W 30 in my D14 power steering, works especially well in cold winter temps up here in the north. The extra metal to metal protection in engine oils will give longer life to the pump. In talking to the techs at the steering rebuilding shop ATF is not very supportive of longevity of power steering pumps according to their observations.

The gears in the factory power steering pump are 10 tooth and are almost the same as the engine oil pump gears in the W series tractors.
