Cultivating with a C

   Can a Allis C be set to cultivate 48” rows of corn?  We had it planted by a neighbor with a cub and planter.   
We have a Allis C and a set of cultivators that have never been in it.  I was wandering if we put the cultivatirs on the C would it cultivate rows that wide, even if we had to only use one side and not both sides.   Could the tires be adjusted to the correct width to do one row at a time    
The cultivators that we have are not in good shape and would take a lot of work to free up and install, so I thought I would ask here if it was worth going to the trouble of fixing them and mounting them ?

	I am of no help, but I think that’s interesting. A lot of farmers around here plant on 40” rows, but I’ve never heard of 48” before.

	It is awfully wide rows, but it was how he had his cub set up with his planter, and it sure went quickly, especially since I would have had to plant it entirely by hand, so it was a big help. However that leaves me with the problem of side dressing it and cultivating it when it comes up. Was really hoping I could use my C to maybe do one row at a time, just hate to put my C and cultivators together and find it won’t work.

	I don't know either but we used to do 42 inch rows with a WC but I think that was about as wide as it would go.

	Idk about a c but, there a lot of people around here use just one side of a supper c farmall for cultivating tobacco and other crops that was planted with a one row machine. I would think if you follow the row with the front cultvator set the rear to reach out into the middle of the row it should work.

	How tall of corn would you eventually want to do? Any way to remove some sweeps, straddle 1 row with a rear tire, and sort of do 1/2+ of a row at a time, finish the row on the way back????

	Thanks for all the replies, I think I’ll go ahead and mount the cultivators on the C and see what I can do with it , maybe one row at a time and use the rear to fill in some to. But first. I have to take the Woods mower out from under it, but Ii’ll give it a try and keep y’all updated on how it does. The cultivators haven’t been used in years, may be a challenge to get them operating smoothly again. Also my hydraulic pump has quit working, will have to remove it and see what’s going on with it. IThe pump quit about 15 years ago and I had to remove it and free up a stuck plunger, I hope it’s something similar this time , it worked fine after that till last fall and stopped picking up the mower deck at the end of mowing season. But y’all have convinced me to give it a try, Thanks for the suggestions and maybe I can post some pictures in a month or so. This forum is always super helpful.

	Mine (1948 C, #80 cultivator set) is set for 36". Up front I could move the trapazoidal carrier outboard 5" each. That would get 46" rows as a double row cultivator. However, the oil pan for the final drives drop down will be whacking taller crop, I think 44" rows would be cutting it close with the oil pan issue, and also the final drive casting inboard face, where the draw bar mounts, if the corn is tall. To get 48" double rows. First now you are about dead on center with the final's oil pan. Then the shoes need to be slid to maximum further back (&outwards) on the tool bar. The tool bars are not equal length I think you can install the longer ones outward to gain even more. Sort of looks possible. If the corn is short. As a single row I don't see a problem. However I didn't think through tire spacing for either scenario.

	Does the neighbor with the cub have a cultivator set up for his cub. Maybe you could ply him with some beer and or ? and gas to use the rig a few times a needed.
