I am replacing the rear axle seals on the d14. the seal I got didn't look like what I pulled out, well that's because at some point somebody put 2 together. since somebody else must have had this apart before I'm wondering if there is something else that might need done? the bearings on the inside of the rear end have only a small (very small) wiggle to them, there is one shim on both sides between the final drive and the rear. is there any thing else I should be checking? as much fun as it is pulling the final drive off to replace a $7.00 seal, I'd kinda like to avoid doing it monthly..lol
the bearings I mentioned are the ones just inside the rear end you can see when ya pull the final drive. not sure if that helps, but better to give to much info then none at all. Edited by dt1050 - 09 May 2017 at 4:02am |

well, I got the right side done and I'm almost got the final drive put back on the left side. just gotta get it past the studs and bolt it up. so if ya guys think of anything between now and when the seals go bad again. let me know. I'm gonna have to replace the brakes probly this winter, so I'll be tearing it down again. thanks dt

As long as there's no grooves on the axle, at the location of the seal, and the seal goes in, the right direction, you should be good to go...

oh crap!!! I think I put the seals in backwards. I put them in with the seal/spring facing towards the brakes. the front of the seal that has the number on it is facing the rear end. somebody put 2 seals in before me. one with the seal number facing the rear and one with the seal number facing the brakes. I put the seal in this way. the rear would be the same as this photo, toward the shock.
