Already sounds crazy, doesn't it?? But when I'm sitting here at college, bored to death, I often get to dreaming up some off-the-wall inventions/farmer mods. Lol I've never torn apart a WD/WD45 wet clutch or a CA dry clutch, but I'm thinking I might could take the power lift off my WC and put one of these two styles of clutches inline with the transmission drive shaft. I know there was a WC at Hutch with a rare aftermarket dry clutch, and it had a handle similar to the WD's in a way, but those are really hard to find, plus I'm cheap.
Does anyone have a pic of a CA and WD/WD45 hand clutch out of the tractor? I never torn apart the clutch on my CA before I sold it, but I'd like to know what it looks like/how it operates. I'm thinking with a little ingenuity I can make one of the 2 clutches work. I'm thinking the CA clutch might not be the best bet, since it's a smaller tractor, and may not handle the extra power and torque from a bigger tractor, when under load. I know the housing on both tractors is totally un-compatible with a WC, but with a little elbow grease and farmer know-how, you can accomplish anything.
I'm thinking the best bet might be find a old junker WD or WD45 and rob the hand clutch, input and output shaft, etc. and fabricate my own case to house all the parts. I think it could be done. I'm just looking for discussion, opinions, and advice. This isn't a "gotta have it" thing, just kind of a fun project to keep me busy when I have some free time, maybe this summer after harvest. Thanks!
PS- I know what you're thinking....just get a WD or WD45 and be done! Well....I like the look of the unstyled WC better. Yeah, that's a silly reason, but I've already got the tractor, and it's paid for! 
Edit: I just had a "duh!" moment....I looked on Tom Foss' Allis01 website, and he has some pretty good photos of his WD45D hand clutch rebuild. Thanks Tom!

You might as well go all out, and go with a power director in the WC.

Start lookin and find the hand clutch built for the WC that a lot of them added when they bought a roto baler.I don't know who made them, but they are still around some.

Really? I've only seen 1, the one at Hutch (the dry clutch). Seems someone told me TSC made that one, or one like it. I think someone also told me once there was a wet hand clutch attachment, but I've never seen a photo of one. Neither are likely to be found down here. There just isn't an old Allis presence down here like there is higher up in the Midwest.

Listen closely to what Charlie Says. There was a dry clutch made for the WC especially to fit where the power lift goes. Worked well. Saw the literature but did not sell any in our area. Let us know if you find them. Good Luck! Bill Long

There is a WC dry clutch brochure on Brian Ahart's website. Made in George Iowa. I have one and have seen several others. My uncle installed one back in the day.

A clutch between the transmission and rear end (like on the WC) has to handle a lot more torque than if it was on the transmission input shaft. The wet version would slip whereas the dry version has a lot higher torque rating.

This is a wet clutch (runs in oil) made by Sherman to give WCs live power. It is coupled to an underdrive in one housing/unit. It operates more like a CA hand clutch than a WD.
