OK, it's supposed to be warm this week so IF the ground dries up enough to plow, till and sow rye, roll to pack  will it be up enough(2-3" ??) before Old Man Winter comes here( southern Ontario ). I usually toss a bushel of rye onto my 1/2 acre garden plot every year but rotater cuff will make it challenging.Don't mind the pain if I'll get the gain.

kinda on the fence about this...
I could just toss and till a lot of pony poop ....

thanks for your comments !

Yes, go for it. The cereal rye, even if it isn't 3 to 4 inches tall this fall should take off next spring. I planted mine after corn a week ago, along with some Essex rape seed mixed in.

Ha, that had me thinking about a new article I read a while back about a town called Tisdale in Saskatchewan whose slogan was "Land of rape and honey", reffering to rapeseed.  Just this year the town council decided to change the slogan.

I hand broadcast rye after tilling the garden 2 weeks ago. Didn't even cover it. It's 3" high already. Central Pennsylvania. You'll be fine.

All it has to do is sprout this fall, but the less it grows in fall the slower it starts out in spring.

If you have a disc, just disc and plant, then run over with a cultipacker. No need to plow. LOL Bob
